Bulldogs, Clippers meet tonight for second of three straight

It's the second of three straight head-to-head games between these two clubs, as the Bulldogs (7-2-2-1, 2nd Island) face off against the Nanaimo Clippers (5-7-0-0, 3rd Island) tonight at the Multiplex.

These teams met last on Sunday afternoon, a 5-1 Bulldog win.  That was preceeded by a 4-1 Bulldog win on April 20th. The first meeting of the pod season went to the Dogs as well, by a 6-4 score on April 18th.

I just had a bit of writers block while trying to post a differently worded broadcast paragraph here and almost just wrote "Can't make it to the game? Fear not, I'll bring it all to you" which is a line I would mix in "back in the day" when things were normal.

Of course you can't make it, and I know so so so so many of you would do almost ANYTHING to be able to be there in person. Just know that this knowledge inspires me to do my absolute best in covering it all for you!

93.3 The Peak FM's Bulldogs Hockey - brought to you by Pacific Chevrolet - will be on the air tonight for the pregame show at 6:45, with the puck drop and play-by-play to follow at 7:00pm Pacific.

Tonight's 1st Intermission guest is Bulldog Defenceman Braden Blace.

Tonight's 2nd Intermission feature is once again courtesy of the BCHL Podcast, and thanks to the league's coordinator of content services Jesse Adamson who recently caught up with former Bulldog Aaron Bohlinger. Part one of the interview airs after 40 minutes tonight, and part two will air in the 2nd Intermission on Friday night!

Paige Maher commits to Simon Fraser University....

Awesome story here - congrats to Paige, her family and the Alberni Wrestling family.

Yes - this is a "Bulldog" blog - but it's always also been about local sports and the community in general.

It's sure nice to have some positive sports news, isn't it?!

Alberni Wrestler Paige Maher Commits to Simon Fraser University

Alberni Wrestling and Simon Fraser University are excited to announce the commitment of Paige Maher to the SFU Women’s Wrestling Team starting in the Fall of 2021.  Maher is a three-time BC Provincial Champion, and current Canadian National Champion (69kg) and has represented Canada internationally as a member of the Cadet National Team.

Paige will be joining a formidable SFU women’s team that is headed by Olympian Justin Abdou, current National Team member Justina Di Stasio, and Hall of Fame coach, Mike Jones. “We are very excited to have Paige join our program.  She was at the top of our recruiting list and we are honored that she has chosen SFU.   We think that she will make an immediate impact at the University level,” stated coach Abdou.  "We have a long-standing relationship with the Port Alberni wrestling club and appreciate all that they do for young wrestlers.  We are super excited to have yet another PA grad wearing the SFU colors."

Maher is joining a long line of Alberni wrestlers who continued their careers at SFU including brothers Aaron and Nolan Badovinac, Yorgo and Alexis Roumanis, Maureen (Messenger) Miller, Ashlea McManus, AVWC president James Messenger, and long-time ADSS Head coach John McDonald.  She brings with her a plethora of talent, an unassailable work ethic, and strong leadership skills.

“Paige is an outstanding athlete whose skillset and values fit those of the SFU culture,” commented coach John McDonald.  “I am confident that Paige will have a lot of success at the university level and am excited to see her follow the footsteps of many Alberni Alumni before her.  Let the tradition continue!”

After a much deserved two days off from game action, the Bulldogs (6-2-1-1, 2nd Island) return to pod play tonight as the "visit" the Cowichan Valley Capitals (2-9-1-0, 4th Island) at the Multiplex.

This is the fourth head-to-head meeting with the Bulldogs carrying a record against the Capitals of 3-0-0-0. The first meeting saw the Bulldogs stage a dramatic comeback into the final seconds of regulation to win 5-4 in overtime on April 3rd. Following that, they earned a 5-0 win on April 10th.  The most recent meeting saw the Bulldogs emerge victorious by a 4-0 score on April 17th.

Bulldogs, Clippers meet tonight for second straight game

It's the second meeting of the pod season between these teams, and the second in just three days as the Bulldogs 4-2-1-1, 2nd Island) "host" the Nanaimo Clippers (4-4-0-0, 3rd Island) tonight at the Multiplex.

The sides last saw game action when they met head-to-head Sunday afternoon at the Multiplex, a 6-4 Bulldog win.

I'm certainly well aware of how fortunate I am to be able to be present at these games to spectate, and also very much understand the role I have in bringing the games to everyone who wishes so dearly to be there in person as well. I'll do my best!

Alberni Valley Bulldogs 6 Nanaimo Clippers 4

Bulldogs face Clippers today for first meeting of pod season

It's the first meeting between these teams in the pod season, as the Bulldogs (3-2-1-1, T-2nd Island) face the Nanaimo Clippers (4-3-0-0, T-2nd Island) today at the Multiplex.

The Bulldogs played last night, where the stopped a two-game slide with a 4-0 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

The Clippers played the early game yesterday, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Victoria Grizzlies.

These teams were originally scheduled to play Thursday night, but that contest was postponed out of an abundance of caution due to inconclusive Covid-19 test results that were since confirmed to be negative. That game has been rescheduled to May 11th, a 7:00pm start.

I'll be live from the Multiplex on Pacific Chevrolet Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM at 12:45 with our pregame show, with the game action to follow at 1:00pm.

Today's 1st Intermission guest is Bulldog Defenceman Darren Beattie.

Eddie Gregory, voice of the Coquitlam Express will be my guest after 40 minutes, talking about the Coquitlam pod and the BCHL in general

Bulldogs, Grizzlies back at it tonight

It's the second straight head-to-head meeting for these teams, as the Grizzlies (4-2-0-0, 1st Island) play "host" to the Bulldogs (2-2-0-1, T-3rd Island) tonight at the Multiplex in Island Division pod action.

Neither team has played since they faced each other Sunday afternoon, a 7-5 Grizzlies win in another wildly entertaining game.

The Grizzlies are 3-0-0-0 in the head to head series, while the Bulldogs are 0-2-0-1. The first meeting was the pod-season opening game on April 2nd, a 6-5 Grizzlies win in a shoot out. The Grizzlies came out on top in the second meeting on April 5th by 4-3 score.

After game times of 1:00 and 3:00 respectively on Saturday and Sunday, it's back to a regular 7:00pm game tonight. Pacific Chevrolet Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM is on the air for the pregame show at 6:45, with the play-by-play to follow the puck drop after 7:00 Pacific.

Tonight's 1st Intermission guest is Bulldog Forward Kobe Assam.

What a story that's behind my 2nd Intermission guest. It's former Bulldog Aaron Bohlinger - who's a freshly minted NCAA National Champion. If that wasn't enough, he's coming off his first career Collegiate goal. Still not enough...WAIT, there's more - his first career goal.... was also the National Championship game winning goal for the UMass Minutemen in their 5-0 title game win over St. Cloud State!

How cool is that?!
