FINALLY, the Bulldogs are at home, host Clippers tonight, Toy Run TODAY!

It's the second meeting between the teams in as many days, as the Clippers (1-1-0-0) head over the hump and into Port Alberni to visit the Bulldogs (0-3-0-0) tonight at the Dog Pound.

The Clippers took the opener of this home and home set last night in Nanaimo by a 2-1 score.

There's lots of fun to be had outside the rink before the game, with a live band and a free BBQ  provided to fill you up and fire you up!

Don't forget that the 35th Annual Port Alberni Toy Run thunders into town today shortly after 12 noon! The Bikes will leave Little Qualicum Falls at noon sharp and usually roll into town around 12:20-12:30ish.

If you have somewhere you need to be in town around that time, get there early as you're likely to be delayed. A little delay, is a very small price to pay in my opinion, for everything the Toy Run does for kids - and the entire community all year long.

Get more details on the Toy Run website HERE

It's a busy day for me, as I won't only be broadcasting the game tonight, but I'll be live up at the entrance to the city and down at Glenwood centre broadcasting from the Toy Run festivities from 11:30 to 2:30. You can listen on your radio or online at www.933thepeak.com

Pacific Chevrolet Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM is on the air tonight for the pregame show at 6:45, with the puck drop and play-by-play to follow at 7:00.

I can't wait to get back on the air inside the Multiplex, and can't wait to have Bruce MacDonald with me as it's just not the same calling games by myself like I've done for the last three. He'll handle colour commentary and analysis, I'll handle the play-by-play and hosting while Dan Tisserand will be on hand to compile and tabulate team and player statistics throughout the game.

Tonight's 2nd intermission guest is Cole Morton the play-by-play voice of the Surrey Eagles, who the Bulldogs host Tuesday night.

Bulldogs drop third straight, 2-1 to Clippers

The Bulldogs had the best early chance in the opening minute on a 3 on 2 rush in tight that never got on net. The Clippers would carry the better of the play through the opening minutes, leading to an early 1-0 lead as Aiden Hansen-Bukata put a shot to the slot from the right point on goal where Jackson Glassford made a good first save, but couldn't locate or get help on the rebound as Josh Bourne banged it home in the crease at 2:30 of the first. The Clippers would push hard to build their lead, but Jackson Glassford made a couple solid saves to keep it a one-goal game, the most notable coming off Sean Donaldson in front. The Bulldogs pushed back after being down 10-1 at one point in shots, tying it at 1-1 when Jackson Munro gloved a puck down at centre ice and found Ryan Doolin up the left wing. He would drive wide around a defender and in on net where he put a shot on goal that was stopped by Zachary Bennett, but the rebound rattled around before Doolin fired it home. Mitchel Deelstra also drew an assist on the play at 10:05. The Bulldogs were instantly penalized, but killed it off. Dawson Tritt raced in on a shorthanded breakaway during it and was hauled down, but was also called for diving to negate what might have been a power play, and could've been a penalty shot. The Dogs did earn a power play late in the period and looked very good on limited time during it, but a phantom penalty call took them off of it. The Clippers would have another great chance to build the lead, but Glassford came up with a breakaway save on Tyler Williams. The Bulldogs threatened in the late stages of the period, but Bennett made a couple good saves in tight. Nanaimo pressed very late in the frame, but Glassford made a fantastic save on a one-timer by Travis Walton, and then got some help from Jackson Munro who saved a sure goal with a desperation lunging block of a wrap around on the goal line.

Shots were 17-8 Clippers after one.

The second period saw a number of opportunities both ways, with the Clippers having the better of them but neither team being able to beat the respective goalies. Perhaps the most notable save came early in the period when the Bulldogs got caught up ice and gave up a 2 on 1 rush that saw Jackson Glassford make highlight reel save going post to post to somehow keep out a Tim Washe one-timer.

Shots in the period were 15-10 Nanaimo, for a 32-18 Clippers edge after 40 minutes.

The third period was played fairly tight through the early minutes, with not much in the way of chances. A mad scramble was kept out by Glassford, with no whistle coming from the Referees despite him being on top of the puck. The play continued with Glassford down, and Mike Kennedy intentionally elbowing him in the head and dislodging his helmet. At the conclusion of the play, it was a 2-1 Nanaimo lead, with Glassford again appearing to cover the puck, but having it speared out loose from under his glove. He would end up in net, along with the puck. Travis Walton would get credit for it, with assists going to Scott Mahovlich and Devon Mussio at 10:54 of the third. Mussio would be penalized on the play, as he cross-checked Josh Zary from behind into the net. The Bulldogs wouldn't be able to capitalize on it, as the Clippers made the lead stand to the buzzer, with the Bulldogs having a chance or two but being unable to generated any sustained attack.

Third period shots were 11-4 Clippers, for a game total of 43-22 Clippers. Zachary Bennett earned 3rd star honours with the win, while Jackson Glassford earned 2nd star honours with the loss. The Bulldogs and Clippers both went 0 for 3 on the power play.

The teams meet again tomorrow night at the Dog Pound.

Dogs drop second straight in heartbreaking fashion in dying seconds, 6-5 to Kings

Each team had a chance in the opening 60 seconds, with the pace again being high from the outset. The Bulldogs would draw a penalty, and take their first lead of the season on their third power play goal in four periods as Mitchel Deelstra ripped a perfectly placed shot high, short-side over the glove of Matteo Paler-Chow at 4:37 of the first, with assists to Jimmy Rayhill and Isaac Pascoal. The Kings would equalize seconds after a power play elapsed, as an end-board bounce snuck out near-side where it was one-timed home by Jack Long, with assists going to Christian Buono and Dylan Finlay at 10:49 of the first. The Bulldogs would respond to take their lead back five minutes later, as Josh Zary played the puck back to Moe Acee who half missed on a one-timer that end up to the slot where Caige Sterzer spun and fired a quick backhand past the left toe of Paler-Chow to make it 2-1 at 15:06 of the first to complete the scoring in the period.

Shots were 19-8 Kings.

The second period saw the Bulldogs press from the outset, and they went up 3-1 when Ethan Jones played the puck to the slot where Tommy Bannister fired a quick release five hole on Paler-Chow, with Carson Hemenway assisting at 3:37. The Bulldogs continued to push the pace, and made it 4-1 as Ryan Doolin made a pretty pass across the crease on an in-alone chance that was tapped in off the far post by Mitchel Deelstra for his second of the game at 6:01. The Bulldogs couldn't build on it, as the Kings got one back four minutes later when Riley Moran made it 4-2 at 10:21 with PJ Garrett assisting. The Bulldogs had opportunities on attacking zone sequences to answer,  but before they could a full on Officiating circus took control of the game. It began with the Bulldogs on the attack,  and Tommy Bannister taking a shot while getting knocked down from behind. A King player would step on his stick,  and Bannister would be penalized. The Kings capitalized to make it 4-3 on an Ethan Schmunk deflection from the slot - that was credited to Levi Glasman, with assists given to Dylan Finlay and Davis Pennington at 17:18. Off the following faceoff the Kings were awarded a penalty shot on a bang-bang cross-ice centering chance on the rush that saw Pearson barrelled into. Certainly not a penalty shot going on the standard I've been accustomed to, but perhaps rules have changed. At any length, Nolan Krogfoss hit the post and it stayed out. A minute later a tie up at the Bulldog net saw Levi Glasman cross-check Grayson Valente in the neck from behind. Valente would be given a diving penalty. Certainly not a vicious cross-check, but a penalty if anything? The following sequence a Tim Gould check, with a King going down curiously as easily as Valente would be - not a dive, but, you guessed it - a cross-check to Tim Gould. The Kings would score at the side of the net on the subsequent 5 on 3 with Ethan Schmunk scoring with assists to Glasman and Pennington at 19:44 of the second for a 5-5 tie after 40 minutes.

Shots in the period were 15-14 Kings, for a 34-22 edge after two.

The third period saw the whistles seemingly swallowed, with end to end hockey that was exciting to watch mixed with partial instances of full on rodeo breaking out. The Bulldogs would take the lead back six minutes into the frame as Moe Acee cleared the puck from the slot to Dawson Tritt, who head-manned it up the left wing for Jackson Doucet. He in turn made a perfect pass onto the tape of Tyler Kostelecky, who raced in over the line into the left circle where he snapped a perfectly placed shot long-side past the blocker of Alex Rolfe to make it 5-4 at 6:22 of the third. The Bulldogs again pushed for more, but got caught at the end of a long attacking zone shift and couldn't change before getting caught in their zone. Two near-misses stayed out but the Dogs couldn't get the puck out before it was 5-5 as Dylan Finlay beat a screened Pearson low from the right point, with assists to Christian Buono and Ben Wozney at 11:35 of the third. The teams would trade chances throughout the remainder of regulation, before the Bulldogs would give up the winner in heartbreaking fashion with seven seconds left as a turnover in their zone ended up at the front of the net where the first chance stayed out, but Dawson McKay found the loose puck and slid it home five hole to make it a 6-5 final at 19:53 of the third. Assists went to Ethan Schmunk and Christian Buono.

Shots in the third were 18-12 Kings, for a game total in their favour of 52-34. Luke Pearson took the loss, while Alex Rolfe earned the win in relief of Matteo Paler-Chow. The Bulldogs went 1 for 2 on the power play, while the Kings went 2 for 5 while also missing on a penalty shot.

The Bulldogs are next in action Friday in Nanaimo, and finally at home Saturday night when they host the Clippers.

Kings win season opener 6-3 over Bulldogs

The start was fairly energetic both ways, with the Kings having a slight edge in the play. The Bulldogs would be penalized near the four minute mark, but successfully killed the advantage off without giving up much in the way of scoring chances. The Kings would open the scoring with a quick strike on the transition from defence to offence, as they exited their zone and in a matter of seconds beat the Bulldogs in numbers to their zone, as a quick 2 on 1 turned into a breakaway with Levi Glasman being sent in alone from the hashmarks where he beat Pearson with a deke to the backhand to make it 1-0 at 6:59, with assists to Rowan Miller and Davis Pennington. Before you could blink, it was 2-0 as off the centre ice face off two quick passes caught the Bulldogs a step behind, with another cross-ice pass at the hashmarks sending Dawson McKAy in alone, where he went high to the backhand in tight over the blocker of Pearson to make it 2-0 at 7:08, with Christian Buono also assisting. The Bulldogs responded well to the quick 2-0 hole, but couldn't get on the board before taking another penalty. They again successfully killed it, before earning a power play of their own. It didn't generate much in the way of opportunities or momentum though, as the Kings killed it off to protect their lead into period two.

Shots in the first were 10-4 Kings.

The Bulldogs had an obvious jump to their step as the second began, and would quickly go to a power play opportunity that they would cash in on in the late seconds of it as Tommy Bannister kept the puck in at the Powell River line where it bounced to Ethan Jones. He would make one man miss before putting a perfect cross-ice pass to a streaking Tommy Bannister,  who lifted it home past the pad Matteo Paler-Chow at 4:12 of the second for his first career goal to make it a 2-1 game. The Bulldogs would attack hard for the equalizer and earned a power play on the following whistle. Despite great pressure in the zone, they couldn't find the net. The Kings would push back later in the period, with Luke Pearson making a couple solid saves to keep it a one-goal game. A tough missed call made it a 3-1 game in the back-half of the period,  as Pearson made a stick save and deflected the puck over the glass and into the netting. None of the four officials detected it, despite Pearson signalling that the puck went out. Play would continue, and the Kings would make it 3-1 as Rowan Miller threw a puck on net that beat a screened Pearson low at 12:26 of the period, with assists to Jacob Paler-Chow and Ian Kern. The Bulldogs appeared to earn the benefit of a similar no-whistle a few minutes later as it was high-sticked by Tim Gould, and then subsequently touched by Grayson Valente but play continued. The Bulldogs would push in the attacking zone, with Tim Gould putting a shot toward the net from the right point that hit a King defender and went on goal where Paler-Chow reacted to make a great save, but he couldn't control the rebound as it went cross-ice where Tyler Kostelecky lifted it home for his first career goal to make it 3-2 at 15:54 of the second to complete the scoring for the period

Shots were 14-9 Kings, for a 24-13 advantage after 40 minutes.

The third period saw the Bulldogs with a good push early and several opportunities around the net in search of the equalizer, but the Kings would once again restore their two-goal cushion just over seven minutes into the frame when a failed clearing attempt resulted in PJ Garrett throwing a high hard one at the net where Dawson McKay deflected it high over Pearson from in tight to make it 4-2 at 7:24 of the third, with Christian Buono again drawing a second assist on the play. The Bulldogs once again didn't deflate after falling down by two, as they created a couple good chances, including an in-alone feed for Ryan Doolin that saw him ring one off the cross bar but stay out. The Dogs continued to push, but got caught and fell into a 5-2 hole on a three-on-three rush that saw no one pick up Hunter McCoy as he took a pass from Levi Glasman across the Dogs line where he walked in to the left circle where he snapped a quick release far-side high over the glove of Pearson to make it 5-2 at 11:53 of the third, with Jack Long also assisting. The Bulldogs would get one back on the power play with under two minutes to play as Hayden Hurst went D-to-D across the Kings line for Moe Acee at the left point, where he put a perfectly placed - and weighted pass - onto the tape of Mitchel Deelstra in the right circle where he blew a one-timer through Paler-Chow to trim the gap to 5-3 at 18:18 of the third. The comeback came no closer, with PJ Garrett hitting the empty net, unassisted at 19:04 to make it a 6-3 final.

Shots in the third were 13-11 Bulldogs, for a game total of 35-26 Kings with Luke Pearson and Matteo Paler-Chow being the goalies of record. The Bulldogs went 2 for 4 on the power play, with the Kings going 0 for 4.

The two teams go at it again tomorrow night, a 5:00pm puck drop.

Bulldogs visit Kings tonight to open 2019-2020 season

It's the opening night of the 2019-2020 season, and the first of a two-game double header between these teams tonight as the Bulldogs visit the Kings at the Hap Parker Arena.

Opening Night is always exciting, and one that has been circled on the calendar from the day the schedule has been released. From a personal standpoint, I'm of course excited to get back on the air and into the booth.

It's of course exciting for players and fans around the league, and for the communities that these teams call home. Speaking of HOME, I can't wait for the first home game a week from tomorrow. There's no better place to call a game. I'm already getting ahead of myself though, as it's all about the now - and nothing more.

It's an exciting night from the players perspective no doubt to finally get going again, as it's been a long spring and summer of training on and off-ice to get ready for this moment. Suddenly, the moment is here. For some players, this is a night that will never happen again, and one they'll always remember - their first career Junior game....or Bulldog game, or BCHL game etc.

EVERY team has changes, key losses, recruits they expect big things from, returnees they're counting on to step up their game etc, and the Bulldogs are no different. Having said that, the Bulldogs are unique, at least compared to their Divisional opponents in that they've undergone a major regime change. The Head Coach has changed. Joe Martin has replaced Matt Hughes as Head Coach and GM. The Majority Ownership has changed. Keycorp Sports and Entertainment has taken majority ownership from the Port Alberni Junior Hockey Society.

After a fourth place finish, and a first round exit in 2018-2019, let's hope the end result at the end of most nights will also change. I'm excited, and can't wait to finally get it all going tonight. I for one, am tired of waiting for it and talking about it and typing about it. There is so much more to say, but I'll let the game speak for itself. Drop the puck already!

Van Isle Ford Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM is on the air tonight for the pregame show at 6:45, with the puck drop and play-by-play to follow after the Home Opener pomp and circumstance and ceremonies.

Tonight's 2nd Intermission guest is Dan Marshall, play-by-play voice of the Nanaimo Clippers on our sister station 106.9 The Wolf, with the Bulldogs and Clippers set to do battle in a Home-and-Home next Friday and Saturday.

Bulldog Broadcasts, what to expect!

Hello and thanks for stopping by the blog. With the Regular Season opening Friday, it's time for my annual informational post in regards to what to expect when you tune in to Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM (or another medium) through the next 58 games, and any subsequent playoff games.

First and foremost - understand the medium. Which means - we're broadcasting on radio. We are your eyes. My primary goal is to enable those not at the game to SEE the game. I very much understand that some people are watching the pay-per-view and can SEE the game and they might get too much, but the people that can't see the game need more, not less!

Some insight into the broadcast philosophy... as a general rule, I will always try to be positive. At the same time I try to be honest. The core fan base of this team from day one is an educated one. They want me to "call a spade a shovel" and not sugar coat things. Having said that, I'm well aware that there is always one fan on one side of the fence, and one on the other side of the fence. It is one of the challenges and benefits of having such a great fan base and community here that cares for the team and is involved with the team on many levels. There's also a few fans standing ON TOP of the fence - not sure what side they are on. Ha.

The  job isn't an easy one, as I am always walking the fine fine fine line of not wanting to offend the parent/fan/billet/sponsor that is looking for entertainment, and something to root for and get emotionally invested in. The other side are the true hockey people/fans/parents etc. They want to know the REAL SCOOP. They want BLAME outright, and ANSWERS why the team isn't winning, or why they are winning, and they might have an agenda.

In my opinion there isn't anything wrong with being on one side of that or the other either! In the end the hockey is great, and it's highly competitive. You win some, you lose some, you can't win them all and the line between both results is sometimes - or more often than not - razor thin.

In the end, I'm just "calling it like I see it" as my employer (for those that don't know, it's 93.3 The Peak FM and the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, LP, not the Alberni Valley Bulldogs that signs my cheques, a very common misconception) wants me to do, and as I have done for about 1200 games over the last 20 years or so. Why? Because it hasn't failed me yet. People won't always like what they hear, or don't hear, but I simply can't help it if the game on the ice isn't going the way you want for the team - or an individual on the team.

I'm pretty excited for the season, drop the puck already!

I'm very happy to inform you that we have Van Isle Ford (away games) and Pacific Chevrolet (home games) back as our title sponsors this year - if you appreciate the broadcasts, thank them with your business!

We begin our broadcasts approximately 15 minutes to puck drop with our pregame show where we speak with coaches from both sides of the puck about the game and current events. We end the game with a post game show with a game recap, a chit chat from a member of the Bulldog Coaching staff, post game show awards and out of town scoreboard updates. In between periods, we speak with Bulldog players both past and present, as well as Coaches/Broadcasters/Executives from around the BCHL and who knows where else!

If you are interesting in being a sponsor on Bulldog Broadcasts, the more the merrier - contact our sales staff at 93.3 The Peak at 250-723-2455, we have plenty of options from big to small available!

( L: Bruce MacDonald, M: Dan Tisserand, R: Evan Hammond)

Listeners are very lucky to have a couple great guys in the booth providing game analyis, colour commentary and team and individual statistics. For home games and select road games Bruce MacDonald is back to provide colour commentary and analysis. For select home and road games,  Dan Tisserand is again also back to provide team and individual game statistics. Both are amazing people, and passionate about the game, and the Bulldogs. The broadcast plain and simple isn't the same without them, but I do the best that I can when I'm flying solo!

Options for listening  / watching the game, beside the trusty radio are:

Listening Live on your computer: www.933thepeak.com

Listening Live on your SmartPhone : www.tunein.com/mobile/
Watching Live on your computer/SmartPhone www.hockeytv.com

Also a huge thanks to ALL our sponsors that make the broadcasts happen. Fans that have listened before will know that we strive to put together a professional big-league broadcast, and in my humble and very biased opinion, I think we accomplish that.

If you appreciate and like the broadcasts, please thank the sponsors that make them all happen with your business!

If there is something you don't like, we always welcome your feedback - drop me a line by the contact form here on the blog.

We would love to hear from you throughout the season - feedback, comments, complaints, criticism - constructive or otherwise, an interesting stat or fact about your son or brother or family member that may be on the team, where you might be listening to the game from, etc etc.

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS - Bulldogs 4 Kings 0

Here's a few highlights from last night's 4-0 Bulldog win over the Kings to conclude their preseason schedule. I wasn't able to make the game, so I can't speak about the lack of audio on the highlights...but it's better than nothing right?

The Bulldogs visit the Kings to open their regular season next Friday, September 6th.  I can't wait!

Enjoy

Bulldogs visit Kings to wrap up preseason tonight

The Bulldogs are in Powell River tonight to face the Kings to conclude their preseason schedule, a week to the day that the two teams will meet again when it counts towards the standings next Friday.

Please accept my apologies as I unfortunately wasn't be able to make the trip. Work commitments at 93.3 The Peak have had me  more than tied up this morning and throughout the weekend with our live coverage Saturday/Sunday/Monday at the 48th Annual Salmon Festival.

Fear not, you can watch the game through Hockey TV

HIGHLIGHTS - Capitals 6 Bulldogs 4

Here's some highlights from Saturday's game at the Multiplex.

It was nice to get back broadcasting, just to make sure most of the equipment worked, and that I still remembered how to call a hockey game!

Bulldogs host Capitals tonight *HOCKEY TV Broadcast*

The Bulldogs (0-1-1-0) conclude the home portion of their preseason schedule tonight when they host the Cowichan Valley Capitals - who are playing their first game on their exhibition schedule.

The Bulldogs fell 7-2 to the Powell River Kings yesterday afternoon at the Multiplex, after dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to them on Thursday night.

Myself and Bruce MacDonald play-by-play, colour commentary/analysis respectively - will bring the game to you (provided there's no technological hurdles, fingers crossed) on Hockey TV.

I cannot stress enough that this is NO WHERE near the product that you can come to expect throughout the season when we are broadcasting on 93.3 The Peak FM and Hockey TV takes our audio broadcast to sync up with their video pay-per-view.

We won't have any produced elements or much of a pregame show, intermission coverage, interviews, or a post game show or anything along those lines.

We also don't have much lead time when it comes to finding out rosters/line ups and associated names and numbers for players like we do throughout the season, so please keep that in mind.

It bothers me to put out a less than "finished product" but I know that fans/parents/families etc will appreciate it none the less!

Once again - this is strictly a volunteer effort to:

a) make sure all our equipment works
b) to make sure I still remember how to do play-by-play (HA) and Bruce still knows how to do colour and analysis and Dan still remembers how to count and tabulate.

Kings top Bulldogs 7-2

We're underway for Game 2.

Jackson Glassford starts in net for the AVB.... Matteo Paler-Chow for the PRK.

Line ups here:

Bulldogs 0 for 1 after an early power play chance.

0-0 4:26 in.

Powell River goes up 1-0 on the power play on a shot and a rebound off a scramble. Levi Glasman scores it, Ben Wozney assists.

Bulldogs fail to cash in on another power play, remains 1-0 Kings 8:10 left in the first.

The Kings go to a power play late in the first, but take penalty leading to four-aside hockey before a short Bulldog power play chance before the buzzer.

It's 1-0 Kings after 20 minutes. The Bulldogs begin the second with 22 seconds on the power play.

Shots in the first were 15-12 Kings

It remains 1-0 14:44 left in the second. The Bulldogs had a player taken down on a breakaway, but couldn't earn a call. Seconds later, they tied it to make it 1-1...the goal was waved off. The Referees didn't inform the scorekeepers as to why, but my best guess was that it was kicked in, or that there was contact on the goalie?

The Kings go up 2-0 on a shot and a rebound on the rush at 8:24 of the period, Davis Pennington scored it, from Levi Glasman

The Kings go up 3-0, yet again on a shot on the rush and a rebound, finished past Aaron Trotter, who came on in relief at the midway point of the period. Michael Abgrail scores it, with assists to Jack Brackett and Reilly Moran.

The Kings make it 4-0 at 16:02 on an odd-man rush, as Levi Glasman taps a cross-crease pass into a wide open net. Ethan Reisterer assists.

The hits just keep on coming, as its 5-0 at 15:30, on a shot off a Bulldog defender in front roofed from the lip of the crease by Reilly Moran, no assists were given.

Shots in the period were 24-7 Kings, for a 39-19 advantage after two.

The Bulldogs kill off 1:39 of King power play time to open the period but Powell River further pads their lead 3:31 into the frame as the Bulldogs fail to clear and a point shot is deftly deflected under the crossbar by Ethan Reisterer with Ben Wozney drawing the assist.

The Bulldogs get on the board 5:25 into the third as Jackson Munro walks the line and puts a shot on goal thats deflected off something to find it's way through Paler-Chow. Mitchel Deelstra and Josh Zary assist.

The Kings go up 7-1 on a shot that might've hit a Bulldog defender and bounced in. Nic Porchetta scored it, with Davis Penninton assisted it.

The Bulldogs make it 7-2 at 18:02 as Ryan Novecosky goes high blocker over Paler-Chow, with assists to Dawson Tritt and Ryan Doolin.

Third period shots were 13-7 Bulldogs for a game total of 46-32 Kings

I had the Bulldogs at 0 for 4 on the power play while the Kings went 1 for 6.

Bulldogs host Kings for 2:00 matinee, updates to follow, PAY PER VIEW broadcast tomorrow night

After a 3-2 overtime win by the Kings last night, these teams conclude this mini two-game series today at the Multiplex at 2:00pm.

Like last night, I'll again post running updates here on the blog, so be sure to check back and follow along if you can't make it to the game.

An entertaining game last night - I was impressed with the Bulldogs battling back to tie the game in the third after falling behind. They certainly had their chances for the go-ahead goal....certainly too early to speak of officiating, but anyone at the game last night knows that it was an unfortunate call at an unfortunate time with under 30 seconds left in the third that ended up helping decide the game, which is too bad.

I'm happy to announce that we'll be doing a volunteer effort Hockey TV broadcast of the final home preseason game tomorrow night when the Bulldogs host the Capitals.

To watch it, head to Hockey TV

We had a little laugh about this on twitter last night (follow me by the way, @Hamwilder by clicking HERE

Hockey in August.... this is what I had to leave last night to get to the rink...!

Bulldogs vs Kings - UPDATES ... 3-2 Kings in overtime

We are underway.... starters in goal - Luke Pearson for the AVB... Alex Rolfe for Powell River.

No score after 20 minutes.

Shots10-7 Powell River.

The Kings had 39 seconds on the power play to end the period, and have1:21 on a man advantage to open the second.

_______________

The Kings press on the power play to open the second, but Pearson is solid to keep it scoreless.

The Bulldogs earn a power play soon afterwards, but can't cash in on it.

Not long afterwards, Ethan Jones finishes a breakaway to make it 1-0 Bulldogs 6:33 into the second. Assists to Jacob Bosse and Olivier Fizet.

Kings instantly equalize, at 7:08 with Jack Brackett scoring with Michael Abgrail and Reilly Moran assisting.

There was no further scoring throughout the frame.

Shots in the period were 14-8 Kings, for a 40 minute advantage of 24-15 in their favour

_______________

The Kings  take a 2-1 lead 4:44 into the third, with Levi Glasman scoring from Ben Wozney with a shot from the slot blocker side on Aaron Trotter, who relieved Pearson at the midway point of the second.

A minute later, the Bulldogs go to the power play. The make it count, as Stephen Castagna makes it 2-2 at 7:22 from Hayden Hurst and Tommy Bannister.

The Kings go to a power play opportunity immediately after the Bulldogs equalize. Alex Rolfe comes up with a breakaway save on Jacob Bosse to keep it 2-2 as the Bulldogs kill off the remainder of the penalty.

With 9:24 to play, the Bulldogs go to the power play, but the Kings kill it off.

Each team had their share of chances until the late stages, but it stayed tied. With 26.1 to play, the Bulldogs were penalized, and the boo-birds came out as it looked like the King player simply fell down and went into the boards, but the Referee thought different.

The Bulldogs would keep it tied to the buzzer to force overtime.

Shots in the third were 14-8 Bulldogs in the period, for a 32-28 Kings advantage through 60 minutes.

The Kings won it quickly in overtime on the power play just 29 seconds in, with a shot through traffic from the right side of the slot just sneaking through Trotter. Jack Brackett was given credit for it, with no assists given, but I thought Jack Long might have been the shooter.
