Bulldogs top Silverbacks 6-3

Play was sloppy both ways early in the game, with neither side being especially crisp. The Silverbacks got going and run up a 5-0 lead in shots five minutes in. The Bulldogs responded a minute later with a Keaton Mastrodonato deflection that hit both legs of Ethan Langenegger and rattled around, but stayed out. The Bulldogs opened the scoring just short of nine minutes in on a pretty passing play on the rush as Jackson Doucet picked up an Aaron Bohlinger pass driving the net and returned it to him, where he put it across the crease for Keaton Mastrodonato who one-timed it home off the back post to make it 1-0 Bulldogs at 8:55 of the first. The Bulldogs looked to have a breakaway chance a few minutes later when a Silverback defender appeared to simply fall down as the last man back, but the Bulldogs were penalized instead. The Silverbacks came very close to tying it on the subsequent power play, with Hawthorne making a series of saves, and also getting some help on the goal line from Grayson Valente who batted the puck off the line with his glove. The Bulldogs earned a power play in the final minute of the first, but despite a couple looks around the net couldn't pad their lead before the buzzer. Shots in the first were 13-13.

The Bulldogs were unable to capitalize on the power play to start the second, and just a minute later it was 1-1  at Andy Stevens threw the puck at the net where it was blocked but ended up right onto the tape of Matthew Verboon to beat Hawthorne with a quick release at 2:24 of the second, with the lone assist to Justin Wilson. The Silverbacks pressed for the go-ahead marker, and came close, but Hawthorne made a fantastic left-toe save on a rink-wide set up for Olson Werenka to keep it tied. Soon afterwards it was 2-1 Bulldogs as Sam Pouliot one-timed a poor clearing attempt at the net where Mitchel Deelstra deflected it home five hole on Langenegger at 7:41 of the second. The Silverbacks would again respond, as they connected on the power play when Justin Wilson was allowed to walk in tight through the left circle where he hit the post short-side on Hawthorne, who couldn't find the rebound or get any assistance as it was thrown to the top of the crease where John Little hammered it home to make it 2-2 at 11:04 from Trevor Adams and Matthew Verboon. The score stayed that way until the final minute of the frame when Jackson Doucet chipped a Sam Pouliot rim up the left wing past a pinching Andy Stevens to create a 2 on 1 where Ryan Miotto carried the puck over the line up the left wing in tight where he beat Langenegger with a quick release, short-side past his blocker to make it 3-2 Bulldogs at 19:19 of the second. Shots in the period were 15-12 Salmon Arm, for a 40 minute total in their favour of 28-25.

The Bulldogs killed off a penalty at the buzzer of the second to start the third, before earning an advantage of their own in the following minutes. Not only were they unable to find an insurance marker, but never threatened on it, if anything losing momentum. The Silverbacks would get the equalizer just short of the midway point of the third as they made a pretty passing play on the rush with the trailer Hudson Schandor beating his man to the net to put home the cross-crease feed from Noah Wakeford, with Nick Unruh also assisting at 9:22 of the third to make it 3-3.  The Bulldogs would go ahead with under five minutes to play as Marcus Walter put a pass up the middle of his own zone for Ryan Miotto, who put a perfect pass up the right wing for Keaton Mastrodonato in full flight where he walked in to the top of the circle where he put a perfectly placed shot far-side off the post and in for his second of the game to make it 4-3 at 15:11 of the third. The Silverbacks had a glorious chance on the following rush, as Hawthorne in desperation appeared to get something on a wide open net chance for Olson Werenka.  Less than a minute later it was 5-3 as Dawson Tritt banked the puck deep into the right corner where Michael Hodge put it on net where Langenegger couldn't cover it allowing Evan Googins to bank it in from below the goal line at 16:47 of the third.  The Bulldogs added a final tally in the dying seconds as Grayson Valente chipped the puck up the left wing of the Bulldog zone for Mitchel Deelstra, who put a perfect pass onto the tape of Stephen Castagna at centre where he was hauled down on an open net breakaway by Akito Hirose resulting in the automatic goal at 19:52 for the 6-3 final.

Third period shots were 9-8 Bulldogs , for a game total of 37-34 Salmon Arm, with John Hawthorne earning the win while Evan Langenegger took the loss. The Bulldogs went 0 for 4 on the power play while Salmon Arm went 1 for 3.

The Bulldogs are next in action Sunday afternoon when they host Powell River.
