It's a big test tonight for the Bulldogs (19-24-3-3, 5th Island) as they host the defending Fred Page Cup champions and current league leading Penticton Vees (43-6-0-1, 1st Interior) for the third and final regular season meeting between the teams.
The Dogs were in action last night at home where they won their third in a row, 4-2 over the Victoria Grizzlies. The Vees are concluding a three-in-three weekend tonight. They were in Victoria on Thursday night where they erased a 5-1 deficit in the last 21 minutes of the game to top the Grizzlies 7-5. and visited Nanaimo last night where they topped the Clippers 6-1 for their fourth straight win.
These teams last met December 5th in Penticton when they played to a 4-4 tie, as the Dogs snapped the Vees season long home winning streak at 16 games. They first met on September 24th at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack, a 4-1 Vees win.
The Bulldogs should certainly feel confident with how they have played lately, and how it's translated to results at the end of the night. At the same time, it's been a desperate consistent work ethic and a focused level of preparation that has put them in position and they quite simply must continue with what has brought them success. The Vees are also certainly not a team to take lightly - I don't think anyone in the league goes into a contest against them without knowing that they must bring their absolute best. The Dogs need to respect them, but leave it at that. It's going to be a different Vees team this go around as they were without Tyson Jost and Dante Fabbro during the last meeting due to the World Junior A Challenge - two players ranked to go in the 1st round of the upcoming NHL draft.
