10:00-12:15pm SELECT WHITE vs. SELECT BLACK “BULLDOGS CUP” GAME
After all the games are completed on Saturday, the top players will be selected and two new teams will be created to play in the Select White/Black game on Sunday for the “Bulldogs Cup”.
All scrimmages are open to the public and free to attend Thursday through Saturday. Continuing with tradition, we ask everyone coming to the Select Black/White “Bulldogs Cup” game on Sunday to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Bread of Life Centre in Port Alberni. The Bread of Life Centre reaches out to serve the needs of the poor and the homeless through their Soup Kitchen and Thrift store.
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary Season, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs have named the scrimmage teams after four of the many alumni that made positive contributions to the community and have moved on to play college or pro hockey.
Kevin Ross played defense for four seasons with the Bulldogs. Each year, Ross worked hard to develop as a player while making positive contributions to the community. Ross’ final season with the Bulldogs saw him average a point-per-game on his way to committing to Princeton (NCAA, Div 1, ECAC).
David Dziurzynski played one season with the Bulldogs and is only one of a handful of players that signed a 3-year pro deal coming out of Junior A as an undrafted player. Dziurzynski signed with the Ottawa Senators and helped the 2010/11 Binghamton Senators win the AHL Calder Cup.
Devin Timberlake played three seasons for the Bulldogs from 2003-2006. Timberlake, A Port Alberni native, recorded 131 points in 177 career regular season games and helped lead the Bulldogs to playoff appearances in all three seasons. Timberlake committed on to Brown University (NCAA, Div 1, ECAC) following his last season with the Bulldogs where he played four successful seasons. In 2010/11, Timberlake appeared in games for the AHL Providence Bruins and ECHL Gwinnett Gladiators.
Tyler Ruel, also a Port Alberni native, played four full seasons with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Ruel holds the franchise record for most career points (236 points in 236 games), adding 241 career penalty minutes to those numbers. Ruel committed to Wayne State University after his last season with the Bulldogs and has spent the last three seasons playing and studying at the University of British Columbia.

Very cool idea to name the teams after alumni. It's nice to see the team doing the little things to celebrate their history this season!
Thanks as always to Gerry Fagan for sending in these updates!
Many thanks to Dennis Jonsson, for his continued support of the Men’s Club. One of these years we will get Dennis out to play in his own event.
The scores of the Dennis Jonsson Scramble weren’t as good as they could have been due to the greens being punched and sanded a few days earlier. None the less there was a three way tie for first place with a score of 62. The foursome of Glen Trask, Mickey Keeley, Mark Anderson and Paul Saulnier emerged the winners. Second was the team of Steve White, Bill Morin, Jules Gauldreault and Dennis Hillman, Third spot went to Fred Frerickson, Don McGowan, John Jones and Gerry Blender. Fourth position was captured by Brett Parhar, Kyle Luchinsik, and Gerry Toms, with fifth spot going to Pat McKay, Al De St Remy, Clint Wilson and Gerry Fagan. The final prize was won by Doug Richmond, Cal Davies, Mel Trelvik and Vic Carlton.
The closest to the pin winners were, Kevin Carlton on No. 2, Frank Hastings collected $27 for the Charity closest to the pin on No. 4, Dennis Hillman on No. 13 and Jerry Swaney on No. 17. The Long drive on No 15 was won by none other than, “long ball” Clint Wilson.
Congratulations go out to Vic Carlton and Brett Parhar, who each recorded a hole in one earlier in the season. They were presented with beautiful trophys and $50 from the Men’s Club ( yours is coming Brett.).
Next week September 4th is an optional event called the Lone Ranger, see the Club Captain for details on how that is played. This competition will be sponsored by the Dairy Queen. The usual ball sweep, money pot and Charity closest to the pin will be up for grabs, Be sure to book your tee time with your own group starting at 7 AM.

Hammer Timberlake and Ruel both played with the Bulldogs in 2002.
I noticed that as well Jamie...its probably because the league website only goes back to 2003 for rosters and stats!
