Wrestlers Off to Nationals ……

Four Alberni wrestlers left on Wednesday for the National Cadet and Juvenile Wrestling Championships in Windsor Ontario. The four flew out with coach James Messenger and will be practicing today prior to weigh-ins and medicals this evening. Competition runs Friday and Saturday in Windsor with the group flying home Sunday.

Cullen Hines and Austin Evans will compete in the Juvenile Men’s Division for wrestlers 17-18 yrs of age. Twins Jordan and Jesse Wagner will compete in the Cadet Division for boys 15-16 yrs of age. BC champions Isaiah Taylor and Jordie Bodnar were unable to make the Nationals trip this year. Hines was a bronze medalist at last year’s Nationals while Evans was fourth. For the Wagners this will be their first experience at the National level.

The local program would like to thank all those groups and individuals who contributed to help make it possible to get these athletes to Windsor. Fundraising is ongoing and help is still appreciated.  Information and results on the nationals will be forwarded as soon as available.
