Chiefs 3 Dogs 2, Dogs vs. Eagles tonight, 2009 World U17 Challenge stories.

Close but no cigar last night for the Bulldogs as they lost 3-2 to the Chiefs in Langley. Langley led 2-0 after one before the Dogs finally connected late in period two in the final minute to trail 2-1 heading into the third. The Chiefs came out flying in final frame, scoring the eventual game winner just 35 seconds in. The Dogs fought back to make it 3-2 on a Jackson Garrett goal, but that would be as close as they would get as Evan Witt appeared to tie the game moments later only to have the goal disallowed as the whistle went first due to a high stick making contact. For the record - since a dozen people have asked me since the game ended - NO I didn't see any high stick making contact anywhere on the play. I'm not the ref though!

Matthew Wong was sensational.

Jackson Garrett will be a huge addition to the team. I knew he would be after I saw how he played in game 60 last season in Powell River, scoring a goal and an assist. In his first game of the season last night he's on the board already. He is an offensive threat and a big body and he will be quite the player in this league.

Port Alberni Safeway Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak kicks off tonight from the South Surrey Arena with the pregame show at 6:45 and the puck drop and all the play-by-play at 7:00pm.

While the Eagles are at the bottom of the Mainland Division at 4 and 11, they just beat the Victoria Grizzlies in their last game out on Sunday afternoon. So the Dogs must be ready for a team that might still be on a high after their big win.
