Some pregame pictures...

Twas the Night Before Hockey

Thanks to Lyle for sending this to me....I'm not sure who gets credit for writing it whether its Lyle or someone else...whomever you are - great job!

I just wish I would have received it last night, because now its less than 8 hours from game time!

Twas The Night Before Hockey

T'was the night before Hockey, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring except me and the mouse.

The equipment was hung in the lockers with care, with the hopes Hockey would soon be there.

The players were nestled all snug in thier beds, while visions of stardom , danced in thier heads

And Fans in thier seats and coaches in Ties, In thier hands, Where Young Futures lies.

When out on the ice rose such a clatter, they sprang from the bench to go get 'atter

Away down the ice they flew like a flash, across the lines, avoiding a slash.

The men on the ice, All for the same reason, to give them - and us , a great season.

When 1800 pairs of eyes should appear, to watch a Team to thier hearts they hold near,

Now, Renzy, Now Dorais, Now Lynott, and Berky,On,Sam, On Josh, On Riddle, On Bailey !

To the end of the rink ! Up against the wall, now Skate Away , Skate Away , Skate Away , ALL .

'Dogs HOME OPENER TONIGHT, Men's Night at the Alberni Golf Club, VOTE VOTE VOTE, TOY RUN TOMORROW!

It's FINALLY here, the Bulldogs Home Opener for 2010-2011 as the Cowichan Valley Capitals are in town. Pregame festivities kick off with Jolie from 93.3 The Peak FM broadcasting live from the Tail Gate party kicking off at 5:00pm. The Peak and Quality Foods are throwing the BBQ, with proceeds going to Raise a Reader.

After that, catch the pregame show with Rick Schievink and myself starting at 6:45pm on THE PEAK.

To read more on tonight's game, check out my preview from the Bulldogs website by CLICKING HERE

The Alberni Valley Times also has a story on the game, find it HERE

We'll see you at the DOG POUND tonight! Make some noise!

And one more thing I forgot!

Hi Jolie and Evan,

I have talked with you before, and are hoping you can help our club with a spot on the news, or in community services.

As you know, the track and field club here is Port Alberni is very successful. We have several athletes who are top in the province, including Graham Villette, Gavin Purewal, Arlene Oldale, and Luke Bradley, who all made Summer Games teams this year. We also have some very successful Junior Development athletes who are top in the province including Heather Cruickshank and Thompson Weegar. These athletes are/will be making provincial teams, winning at provincial championships, and are likely to become involved at the national level!

What this means for our small local club is that funds to travel to championships are done thru fundraising, or the parents have to incur the full cost, and some of these , especially national teams, could mean up to $3000.
Our club is working on raising funds to support our athletes. On Saturday (yes this Saturday, Sept 18th) we have 2 coaches and 2 executive taking part in the Great Lake Cowichan Walk, and they have been taking pledges for this. Our coaches participating in this 56 km walk are Dave and Jill Sherlock, and we have the president Tracy Smith, and Vice President Sheila Weegar walking as well.

The Bulldogs (your special interest Hammer) have agreed to allow the club to set up a table at the opening game tomorrow night, to allow us to drum up some pledges. We are hoping you will provide us a little mention on the air, encouraging our hockey fans to support our track athletes!

Our little town is very good at supporting one another in our respective endeavours. Any and all assistance you can provide us would be welcome!

Thanks again for any help you can provide!

Denise Clements
Head Coach
Alberni Valley Track Club (AVTC)

And don't forget the Toy Run rolls into town tomorrow sometime after 12pm. BEWARE that you won't be able to drive through much of the town for about an hour tomorrow. I think it's worth it, as the Toy Run has raised over 1,000,000 for LOCAL Children's Charities over their 25 years so far!

Get it all LIVE on THE PEAK tomorrow!

Last but not least, here's a bunch of pictures from the shenanigans at the final Men's Night of the season at the Alberni Golf Club last night! What a night! Thanks Bruce, thanks team!

Thanks MacDermott's Insurance!

I almost forgot - thanks to Gary Connauton at MacDermott's Insurance for the gift of some Pro V's.

I can't promise I won't lose 'em, but I'll try my best to keep them down the middle!

I was on location for THE PEAK at MacDermott's earlier this week and Gary was nice enough to come out and give me a nice golf-themed gift, a nice little work bonus!

Season Ending Shoot-off

The final Men's Night of the season is underway at the Alberni Golf Club. Before we play, its the Mac 5 season-ending KP shootout.

Every player that picked up a KP (closest to the pin, why isn't it CP, I don't know!) throughout the season is in the shootout.

No, I'm not in it, no KP's for me this year. I did win Long Drive now, where's that contest Bruce?

My dad WOULD be in the competition as he picked up a KP in his ONLY Men's Night he played here, but he's back in Manitoba.

Some pretty good shots so far!

Final Alberni Golf Club Mens Night tonight, VOTE VOTE VOTE, David Dziurzynski to Senators Main Camp,

It's the FINAL Men's Night at the Alberni Golf Club tonight, and quite possibly the last round of golf I will play until the Grey Cup Tournament. I'm not sure if there are any spots open for tonight, but it couldn't hurt to try the pro shop at (250) 723 5422.

Gerry Fagan sends in this update from the course....

Golf Club News

That's not a bad record, last Sunday was the only day the Men's Club has been rained out this season.. Three more Sundays to go, hopefully they will be dry days.

Preban Rasmussen won $30 recently for the only birdie on No. 17

This coming week is the Dennis Jonsson Scramble, with a shotgun start at 8AM. Please register in the Pro. Shop as soon as possible with your handicaps. The four man teams will be computer picked.

The final Stableford competition for 2010 will be held next Monday
September 20th. This event is open to both men and women. There will be a
shotgun start at 8:30, although the early birds who wish to enter the competition may tee off earlier. If you compile 36 points which is right around your handicap you will automatically win $35 in club money. The more points you accumulate the more you can win. For those who may be off their game be sure to turn you score cards in as there will be several draws.

There will also be closest to the pin prizes of sleeves of balls, #2 will be for men with Handicaps of 15 or higher, #4 will be for all the women, #13 for men with handicaps lower than 15 and #17 will be for all competitors. The cost for this event as always is $20. Please register in the Pro. Shop in your own foursome, or as a single and you will be placed in a group

Do I still need to tell you to VOTE VOTE VOTE? It couldn't hurt I guess!

Congrats to David Dziurzynski, former Bulldog, as he is off to the Ottawa Senators Main Camp. Read more HERE
