Lots of stuff on the go today!

And oh yeah....GO HABS!

The ADSS Armada Girls Rugby team hosts the BC Championships over the next three days with 24 teams from around the Province here battling it out for the title.

Action goes at Bob Dailey Stadium and the Echo Minor and Echo Major fields today, tomorrow and Saturday. Action today kicks off at 12 noon, with the 5th ranked Armada first seeing action at 7pm at Bob Dailey against 4th ranked Smithers at 7pm, immediately following the 6pm Opening Ceremonies.

Friday's games go from Noon to 5pm while Saturday's games get going at 7am.

BULLDOGS ANNOUNCE FUTURES FROM VERNON VIPERS

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs announce today the future considerations component of the trade that saw defensemen Jared Wilson dealt to the Vernon Vipers last October for 95-born forward Craig Martin, 96-born forward Tyler Povelofskie and future considerations.

Povelofskie had a brief history with the Bulldogs, having been affiliated with the team during the 2012/13 season but committed to the Vernon Vipers in 2013/14 for a chance at the RBC Cup. In 2011/12, Povelofskie won a bronze medal with Team BC at the WHL U16 Western Canada Challenge Cup coached by current Bulldogs assistant coach Adam Hayduk.

"It took the Bulldogs a little longer then expected to get Tyler into a 'Dogs uniform," said Bulldogs head coach and general manager Kevin Willison. "He was a player we heavily recruited but ultimately lost out to Vernon because of a guaranteed chance for Tyler to compete for the RBC Cup," added Willison.

Tyler is a player that will provide a physical presence however he can also put the puck in the net - and he will get an opportunity to play more with the Bulldogs. With RBC Cup experience, Povelofskie will add a lot of young enthusiasm and leadership to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs next season.

As a 16 year old, Povelofskie was near a point-a-game pace with the Cariboo Cougars of the BC Major Midget League. He was the Cougars' assistant captain and quarterbacked the team's power play mid-season.

Welcome to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs family, Tyler.

HUNTER STEWART COMMITS TO MARIAN UNIVERSITY

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are proud to announce that Hunter Stewart has accepted a commitment from the NCAA Division III program of the Marian University Sabres.

Stewart was a January 10th trade deadline acquisition back in 2012 that saw the Bulldogs acquire his rights from the Olds Grizzlys for the CJHL rights to Kirsten Odendaal.

Stewart contributed 103 points in 112 regular season games over two-and-a-half seasons for the 'Dogs and added another 7 points in 15 playoff games.

"I'd like to thank the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for supporting me and providing me a great place to play for the last three seasons," said Hunter Stewart in a statement. "I would also like to thank my parents for their support throughout my whole hockey career."

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are very proud of Hunter as he takes this next step in life and his hockey career and wish him all the best at Marian University.

Lacrosse/Fastpitch tourneys this weekend , Live at Canadian Tire, congrats to Tom McEvay, RBC Cup kicks off!

There's Lacrosse action in town this weekend as the Alberni Valley Minor Lacrosse Association hosts their inagural Novice Icebreaker tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Multiplex with action going in both rinks throughout Saturday and Sunday with the Gold/Bronze games going Sunday at 3pm. Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer the kids on and try their hand on a bunch of raffle baskets and Silent Auction items!

There's also some ball action in town, with the AVMSA seeing seven teams from around the Island in town for their Midget Magic Girls tournament. Action goes throughout the day today and tomorrow at the Echo Fields. More details on the tournament HERE

I will be Live on Location Saturday for 93.3 The Peak FM from Canadian Tire for their Grand Re-Opening celebrations. Come down and check out all the changes in store, great deals on everything, and enter your name to win a sweet Masterchef BBQ, a CCM Bike, a Savage .22 Rifle, a Rapala Halibut Rod and Reel combo and and a whole bunch more!

They have some great specials in store on things you might not think you'd find at Canadian Tire - I just bought an HDMI Cable for my Apple TV and Xbox for FOUR, yes four dollars!

The "Original Texas BBQ" truck... I have been smelling their deliciousness for a couple of hours...can't take it anymore!

Big congrats to Tom McEvay for winning the Pacific Western Brewing's "Hometown Hero" award. The title really does say it all, he's a big time hero in this city in my humble opinion! Tom was presented his award by Canadian Olympian Denny Morrison. More details HERE

The 2014 RBC Cup kicks off today in Vernon with the host Vipers being the only BCHL representation...best of luck to the Vipes in doing the BCHL proud. If the fact that they are representing the BCHL isn't enough of a reason to cheer for them, don't forget that they have a couple of former Bulldogs on their roster in Ryan Renz and Jared Wilson.

Don't forget you can follow all the action through the Fast Hockey Pay-Per-View Broadcast

Live from the Gold in the Net Golf Classic

Writing this from the table after a fantastic dinner at the Morningstar Golf Club. Few things taste as good as the meal does after a long day on the course of 18 holes with a few beverages mixed in.

One of the benefits of being the MC is that you can call some shots and send your table up to eat early. Don't want the event to lag behind while the MC is eating. Needless to say those sharing my table appreciate the approach!

It's an honour to be a part of this event, which in its 9 years has now given away $50,000 scholarships in Aaron C. Cornwell's name. It's a way for me to give something back to this game that has given me so much. A big sincere thanks to Perry and Debbie Elderbroom and Gold in the Net for having me back every year!

The highlight of this years event was about 10 minutes ago as Mike Cornwell was addressing the crowd ... and at that exact moment the LA Kings tied the game against the Ducks with 7 seconds left. Mike and Diana are Ducks Season Ticket holders. They didn't find it as funny as everyone else did!

S'Port Alberni busy this weekend....Alberni Wrestling Awards, Bulldogs Spring Camp II in Osoyoos

A very busy weekend in S'Port Alberni!

The Alberni Valley Track Club is holding their annual meet at Bob Dailey tomorrow and Sunday...here's a note from them.

This weekend the Alberni Valley Track Club will be hosting our annual Bob Dailey Track Meet on May 3rd and 4th at the Bob Dailey Stadium (proud of our new track surface and revitalization!!!) We have athletes from all over Vancouver Island and Mainland attending our meet. On Saturday at 1pm we will all be cheering on a male athlete from Comox who will be throwing Javelin in hopes to make the standard for World Jr’s. Come out, watch and support all these amazing athletes!!!

The Alberni Golf Club's Junior Program Open House goes tomorrow from 1pm to 3pm. Here's my thoughts on it from the blog on Wednesday....

Assistant Pro Brian Rands and all his volunteer teachers do a fantastic job at not only introducing kids to the game, but also fine tuning those that have been playing for a while. It must be incredibly gratifying for everyone that has a hand in teaching these kids as young juniors when they go on to the NCAA/CIS and compete in National and International events! Get your kids out to the club this Saturday.

There's also Soccer action at the Echo and ADSS Armada Fields with the 50th playing of the Island Invitational Cup in town

The 50th Island Invitational Cup goes this weekend at Echo Fields and the Armada Turf Field.
Top Soccer teams from Comox, Campbell River, Powell River, Cowichan, Nanaimo and Victoria will be competing for the coveted Island Invitational Cup. Please come out and watch the top male and female soccer players on the island on Saturday May 3rd

Game times are 10, noon, 2 and 4 pm

The Bulldogs Coaching and Support Staff have a very busy weekend as they are on the ice for their second Spring Identification Camp in as many weeks today through Sunday in Osoyoos.

A great indication at the effort put in by the Staff to make the team competitive, as they search high and low, far and wide for players who can make the club and make a difference next year and in the future.

The team responded recently in regards to their Port Alberni Spring Camp - read that story HERE
