Fitzgerald's Ursic, gone to Prince George, Bulldog Game Days, No hitting in House Hockey on Vancouver Island

A huge trade was finalized Friday seeing no less than seven players change addresses, including four Port Alberni boys, almost a quarter of the Clipper roster as the Fitzgerald triplets and Jesse Ursic are gone to Prince George.

For full details, click the link to read Walter Cordery's story from the Nanaimo Daily News HERE

It's a somewhat surprising move as all four players in my opinion showed fairly well for rookies and have great potential (Gerry 8-19-27, Myles 10-11-21, Leo 7-12-19 and Ursic 3-4-7 in 42 GP) but at the same time nothing should come as a surprise with the regime change in Nanaimo - Bill Bestwick out, Mike Vandekamp in. Best of luck in Prince George, surely a lot further from home than just over the hump in Nanaimo. Sadly, with the new schedule format, the Spruce Kings won't visit the Dog Pound this season

Instead of Referees, we will have judges. Instead of music BETWEEN the play, we will play it DURING the action.

Could this be the Hockey of the future? No offense intended to the great sport of Figure Skating, but in my humble opinion, Hockey shouldn't resemble it....on Vancouver Island it might start to, as hitting has been banned in House Hockey. Interesting how Association Executives weren't aware the topic would even be debated. Something tells me this one isn't done yet. There is already a good string of comments at the end of the above article. What are your thoughts on the topic? To each their own, I have my side, what is yours?

Bulldog season is coming up fast - even if it begins a couple weeks later than usual this year. Do you attend Bulldog Home Games? Do you enjoy the game day experience? What do you like and dislike? Do you have any ideas, new or old, that you would like to pass along? I do not speak for the Bulldog Organization in this regard, but I can speak TO the Bulldog Organization in regards to what the fans say to me. If you have any feedback you would like me to pass along - please include it in a comment below, or if you are shy, email it in to me by CLICKING HERE

If you are starved for some hockey and some rink time, head down to the Mulitplex as the Bulldogs Hockey School gets underway today.

I have been a Alberni Valley Bulldog fan since the end of the 2007/2008 season. I am already a huge hockey fan and when I went to my first game I loved it. The atmosphere was awesome! It was loud and would be full of excitement when the horn would go off. It's a place where I can go and scream, cheer and meet new people. I first became a season ticket holder in the 2009/2010 season. I still always talk about an AWESOME year that it was! I try to never miss a game, but if I do I always have my ears listening to Hammer. He does and awesome job! I also listen to all the road games and support the team a 100%. The years that I have been a Bulldogs fan I go to the events and get to know the players. They are very kind and do so much for Port Alberni it's OUTSTANDING! I really like everything that goes on and I don't think anything should change. The staff are great and the whole organization is too. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait for this season to start! GO DOGS GO!

More variety in the music and better song choices! Gotta remember it's hockey, not a rave. Leave the techno out. Oh yeah, fewer announcer 'commercials' during the play would be nice too. It's at the point now where half the time that play is underway, there's some announcement or advertiser blurb out there. I'm wanting to watch hockey and if I have to HEAR things, I would prefer they be limited to goal and penalty announcements and GOOD QUALITY SONG SELECTION. We've been enduring the same predictable song list FOREVER!
