A good start for the Bulldogs, as they had a 2 on 1 chance in the first 20 seconds of the game that they failed to connect on. They would earn back to back power play opportunities in the first five minutes, but again couldn't find the net but they did move the puck well. Their best chance actually came when they were shorthanded as Jordan Sandhu made a great effort to get in on the forecheck and hit a Warrior off of it before finding Jake Witkowski all alone in front where he missed the net high. The score remained tied until the late stages of the first when the Dogs earned another power play. They would connect on it with a series of passes up top before Jake Witkowski took a feed from Jordan Sandhu and walked into he deep slot where he snapped a wrister high past the glove of Shane Farkas. Assists on the play went to Jordan Sandhu and Trevor Cosgrove at 19:25 of the first for a 1-0 Dogs lead after one. Shots favoured the Bulldogs 15-8.

The Dogs were penalized early in he second, but came up with a solid kill to protect the lead. The Warriors would gain some momentum from the opportunity, but the Dogs dug in and pushed back near the midway point of the period but couldn't build their lead as Shane Farkas came up with stops on Trevor Cosgrove, Alex MacDonald and Jake Witkowski on the doorstep. The score remained 1-0 until the back half of the period when the Warriors found the net on a giveaway behind the goal by a Bulldog forward. Brody Claeys would make the initial save with the puck ending up behind the goal line. A reversal of the puck caught everyone except Reed Gunville, who deposited into the near side on a wrap around before Claeys could find it. Scott Allan drew the only assist on it at 13:21 of the second for a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes. Shots in the period favoured the Warriors 14-11, and the Bulldogs 26-22 after two periods.

The Warriors had the edge throughout the first half of the third period, appearing to have a jump in their step that the Dogs for the most part lacked as they fought the puck at times. Despite that, it remained 1-1 through the midway point of the period, with Brody Claeys coming up with a couple good saves on the goal line. As the period wore on, the Dogs pushed back to generate some chances of their own, with Shane Farkas keeping it tied, and a late 2 on 1 rush in the final minute seeing Auggie Moore deflect a Tristan Bukovec just over the crossbar. The Warriors were penalized in the final minute of the game, with the Bulldogs having a couple great chances in advance of the buzzer but being unable to find the net. Shots in the third favoured the Warriors 14-8.

The power play carried over into overtime, with the Dogs getting a single shot but being unable to generate a game-winning chance. Less than a minute later the Warriors went to the power play and won the game with just over 30 seconds in the advantage when Matthew Campese walked into the high slot and snapped a shot along the ice and through the legs of a screened Claeys for the 2-1 final. Jake Harrison drew the only assist at 3:34 of overtime.

Shots in OT favoured the Warriors 2-1, for a game total in their favour of 38-35 with Brody Claeys earning 1st star honours while getting tagged with the loss while Shane Farkas picked up the win. The Dogs went 1 for 5 on the power play while the Warriors went 1 for 3.

The Dogs are next in action Friday when they visit the Grizzlies in Victoria.

Bulldogs host defending National Champion Warriors for afternoon affair

It's right back at it today for the Bulldogs (4-11-2-0, 5th Island) as the defending Fred Page and RBC Cup Champion West Kelowna Warriors (6-9-1-0, 6th Interior) make their only visit of the season to the Dog Pound.

The Bulldogs were in action last night at home where they lost their 9th in a row 4-3 to the Powell River Kings. The Warriors conclude a three-in-three Island swing today - they were in Duncan last night, where they snapped a seven game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Capitals. They opened their weekend Friday night in Nanaimo where they fell 3-2 to the Clippers.

Van Isle Ford Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM is on the air with the pregame show at 1:45, with the puck dropping at 2:00. I'll provide play-by-play and cover the hosting duties with Bruce MacDonald adding the colour and analysis while Dan Tisserand compiles team and player statistics.

Today's 2nd Intermission guest is former Bulldog Captain Eric Margo, who's off to a great start in his CIS career with the Queen's University Gaels.

He scored one of the most memorable recent goals in Bulldog history, an OT winner in the playoffs to stave off elimination with the Dogs in a 3-0 series hole. They would come all the way back to force a game seven, only to give up the winner in the back half of third period to lose a heartbreaker.

Valiant comeback comes up short, Dogs fall 4-3 to Kings

Tonight's Game Report is brought to you courtesy of the Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel

The Bulldogs buzzed in the opening 60 seconds, pressing hard in the Kings zone to generate a chance or two. They would then be caught pressing, as a shot from the left point was blocked and then head-manned by Tristan Mullin for Cam Donaldson, who raced in on a clear-cut breakaway that he finished with a pretty backhand forehand deke to make it 1-0. Tristan Mullin drew the only assist at 1:13 of the first. The Dogs would take a penalty soon afterwards, and got to the final 20 seconds of killing it before being sent to the box again for slashing to end up down two men. The Kings wouldn't waste time on the 5 on 3 scoring just seconds into it on a cross-ice one-timer that was stopped by Brody Claeys, but the rebound was found and fired home by Kyle Betts. Curtis McCarrick and Callum Volpe drew the assists at 7:06 of the first. The Kings would remain on the power play for just under two minutes, and continued to press to build the lead with Brody Claeys making a handful of solid saves to keep it a two goal deficit. Shots favoured the Kings 17-9 after the first.

The Bulldogs again pressed hard to open the second, but in a replay of the first got caught seconds later in their own end and gave up a breakaway where Brody Claeys came up with a fantastic desperation save with his glove on Cam Donaldson. The Dogs earned a power play soon afterwards, and did everything but score as they threw seven shots on net and Brian Wilson was solid to keep it 2-0. The Dogs were penalized on a neutral zone trip near the midway point of the period, and it ended up in the back of their net on what might have been the fourth rebound as Brody Claeys kept consecutive chances out in the paint before it finally was jammed home by Johnny Evans with assists going to Callum Volpe and Tristan Mullin at 9:34 of the second on the power play. Despite the deficit, the Dogs fought back to get on the board on a power play of their own as Jordan Sandhu entered the zone and fought off two Kings to hold the line before Trevor Cosgrove threw it to the slot and onto the tape of a wide open Jake Witkowski who walked in and snapped a wrist shot home far-side past the blocker of Wilson at 16:16 of the second to make it 3-1 after two. Shots in the period favoured the Dogs 17-7 for a two period advantage in the Dogs favour of 26-24.

The Dogs once again started the third period well, earning an early power play chance. They came painfully close to connecting on it on a couple of occasions, the most notable being a Jordan Sandhu set up for Trevor Cosgrove at the backdoor that somehow stayed out despite an open net. Mere seconds later a great stretch pass by Liam Lawson found Ben Berard out of the penalty box and behind the Dogs defense. He would skate in alone and put a shot off the post, that then caromed off Claeys and in to make it 4-1. Johnny Evans also drew an assist at 2:49 of the third. Despite the deficit, the Dogs failed to quit, pushing hard to make it a two-goal game as they connected on the power play when Jake Witkowski found Trevor Cosgrove walking in down the left wing where he snapped one home top corner, short-side high on Wilson at 14:07 of the third to make it 4-2. The Dogs pressed over the next few minutes and had great pressure but couldn't find the net. After a Kings time out, the Dogs a minute later took a time out of their own with just over three minutes to play. They would gamble and pull their goalie to make it a 6 on 5 situation and it would pay off as a Tristan Bukovec centering pass from behind the goal line was found by Ryan Steele in the left side of the slot where he snapped it home short-side on Wilson to make it 4-3 with 2:46 remaining with Trevor Cosgrove also drawing an assist on the play. The Dogs would continue to push, but couldn't get the goalie out cleanly a minute later as they were whistled for too many men. Despite drawing a late penalty to be up a man with a goalie out, the Dogs ran out of time and the Kings made the lead stand.

Third period shots favoured the Dogs 12-6 for a game total in their favour 38-30. Brody Claeys took the loss while Brian Wilson earned seconds star honours with the win. The Dogs went 2 for 6 on the power play while the Kings went 2 for 5.

The Dogs are next in action tomorrow afternoon when they host the West Kelowna Warriors.

Bulldogs host Kings tonight

It's back to home ice tonight for the Bulldogs (4-10-2-0, 5th Island) as they host the Powell River Kings (12-7-0-0, 2nd Island) at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

The Bulldogs were last in action Saturday night in Victoria, where they squandered a 2-0 lead just a minute into the game by dropping their eight straight game, 6-2 to the Grizzlies. The Kings were in Duncan last night, where they won their fourth in a row 9-0 over the Capitals.

It's the second meeting head to head this season, with the Kings coming out on top 5-3 in the previous match up October 7th at the Dog Pound.

The full crew of Dan Tisserand on team and player statistics, Bruce MacDonald on colour and analysis, and myself on play-by-play and hosting will be in the booth to bring the game to you on Van Isle Ford Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM - the pregame show gets the proceedings going at 6:45, with the puck dropping just after 7:00pm.

Bulldogs move Syrydiuk, Finnegan

See below for details on the Bulldogs announcing today that they have traded Ryan Finnegan and Quinn Syrydiuk.

It's the toughest part of this job - seeing guys move on. Best of luck to both Ryan and Quinn, two great guys who served the team and community well and always treated me with nothing but the utmost respect.

BULLDOGS MOVE VETERANS

PRESS RELEASE
October 25, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Port Alberni, BC – The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have traded forwards Ryan Finnegan (Tecumseh, KS) and Quinn Syrydiuk (Toronto, ONT) in two separate transactions.

Syrydiuk served as an alternate captain for the 71 games he played in a Bulldogs uniform. He will be joining the Cobourg Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, who are hosting the 2017 Royal Bank Cup.

“Quinn is a great kid and brought a lot to our team both on and off the ice,” says Head Coach & GM Kevin Willison. “Unfortunately with our team’s performance and Quinn only producing 3 Points (1 Goal and 2 Assists) in 14 Games, we felt a change was needed for him to get back on track.”

Finnegan led the Bulldogs in scoring during the playoffs last season but was unable put up a goal in 16 Games thus far (0 Goals and 4 Assists). Finnegan will be joining the Jersey Hitmen of the United States Premiere Hockey League.

“Ryan is another great kid but was struggling to produce offensively for us,” says Willison. “We want to thank both young men for their efforts and contributions to the community of Alberni Valley and wish them both the best in their hockey careers.”

Both players were traded for Future Considerations.

For further information or comment on the above story please contact Alberni Valley Bulldogs’ head coach and general manager Kevin Willison

Dogs squander early lead, drop eighth straight 6-2 to Grizzlies

While the Grizzlies attacked the Dogs net in the opening 20 seconds, it was 1-0 Bulldogs just 20 seconds later as Cayden Kraus gained the Grizzlies line up the right wing and set up Jordan Sandhu in the slot. His shot would miss the net, but Kraus one-timed the end board bounce up and over Matt Galajda. Tristan Bukovec also drew an assist at 41 seconds of the first. It was 2-0 seconds later when Connor Welsh set up Trevor Cosgrove at the right point. He put a perfect cross-ice feed to the back post for Ryan Steele, who steered it home into the open side at 1:05 of the first. The Bulldogs drew a power play later in the period, and looked to go up 3-0 when Trevor Cosgrove deflected a backdoor pass on net that went off both feed of Galajda and sat on the line before being cleared. Tristan Bukovec would be partially tripped by Jake Stevens into the flailing Galajda. The back Referee would whistle Bukovec for interference however, and while the Dogs killed the subsequent Grizzlies power play they got on the board seconds later when Carson Schamerhorn made a great initial save on an end-board bounce to the slot, only to have Nick Guiney out-fight the defense to lift the loose puck home. Justin Michaelian and Jake Stevens drew the assists at 8:43 of the first. Just over a minute later it was a tie game as the Dogs turned the puck over at centre and got caught going the wrong way as Marty Westhaver stole it and put a perfect pass onto the tape of Sage Englund in alone where he scored on a nice forehand deke to make it 2-2 at 9:56 of the first. Shots were 10-9 Grizzlies.

The start to the second was no where near the early minutes of the first, with a plethora of whistles slowing the pace of the game through the first four minutes. The Grizzlies would take their first lead of the game after two huge back to back Schamerhorn saves, first on Keyvan Mokhtari and Cole Pickup on breakaways, but the Dogs still failed to up their pace of play as the Grizzlies caught them on a change and scored on an odd-man rush set up by Matt Galajda who fed it up ice for Justin Michaelian. He would send Mokhtari in on net again, where Schamerhorn made the save again, but still couldn't get enough help at Mokhtari poked it through him and over the line to make it 3-2 at 4:26 of the second. The Grizzlies went up 4-2 three minutes later when they connected on the power play, with a nice set up to the slot being settled down by Mokhtari and then fired home top corner, far-side over the glove of Schamerhorn. Assists on the play went to Jake Stevens and Cody Van Lierop at 7:52 of the second. Less than a minute later the Grizzlies further opened it up, as Carson Schamerhorn made a good initial save on a deflected point shot, and a stellar follow up save on the rebound, but he couldn't make a third or get help from his defense in the crease as Lucas Clark slid it home on the scramble to make it 5-2 at 8:29 of the second. The Grizzlies would be awarded a four minute power play in short order, with Connor Welsh being whistled for cutting Nick Guiney. Someone certainly had their stick up and caught him, but it didn't look like Welsh. The Bulldogs came up with a solid kill through the first 3:30 of the penalty, before drawing a penalty of their own. They would then draw another call for goalie interference, resulting in a 5 on 3 advantage of 39 seconds in duration. They would generate a couple chances on it, but Matt Galajda was good to preserve the three goal lead as the period time ran out. Shots in the second favoured Victoria 22-10, for a 40 minute total of 32-19.

The Bulldogs failed in large part to threaten on their power play to start the third, despite drawing another penalty to earn an 11 second 5 on 3 as the Grizzlies just had the extra intensity to win any of the battles and the Grizzlies made it look too easy. Time would go fast throughout the period, with the Bulldogs being unable to push back and muster any sort of sustained attack through the midway point of the period to stage a comeback. They earned  a power play to try and make a game of it with just under eight minutes to play, but turned the puck over through centre and in their own zone close to half a dozen times in a minute before taking a penalty. The Dogs would earn another power play with just under four minutes to play, drawn by Jordan Sandhu, as he came off the bench and had an extra drive to his stride that was lacking from the most of his teammates. He would drive the zone and fight it behind the net before winning another battle and using his feet to try and walk out front where he was hooked. The Dogs would gamble and pull their goalie to make it a 6 on 4,  and had a couple of looks but couldn't find the net before Keyvan Mokhtari took a Cole Pickup pass at the Victoria line before hitting the empty net from centre for the 6-2 final score.

Shots in the third favoured the Grizzlies 10-8 for a game total of 42-27 with Carson Schamerhorn taking the loss while Matt Galajda earned the win. The Dogs went 0 for 9 on the power play while the Grizzlies went 1 for 8.

The Dogs are next in action Saturday at home when they host the Powell River Kings.

Dogs head down Island tonight to visit Grizz

It's the third meeting of the season between the teams, and the first at the Q Centre since the second night of the season as the Bulldogs (4-9-2-0, 5th Island) visit the Grizzlies (8-2-2-3, 1st Island)

The Bulldogs are coming off a thrilling yet heartbreaking 5-4 double OT loss last night at home against the Cowichan Valley Capitals. The Grizzlies meanwhile ran their unbeaten streak to three with a 4-2 win last night at home over the Langley Rivermen.

The Grizzlies won the first head-to-head meeting, 5-4 in double OT on September 10th. They won the most recent meeting 6-3 at the Dog Pound on September 28th.

Catch all the action on THE PEAK, with Pacific Chevrolet Bulldogs Hockey on the air starting with the pregame show at 6:45, with the puck drop and play-by-play to follow at 7:00

Tonight's 2nd Intermission guest is former Bulldog David Dziurzynski, currently with the DEL's Iserlohn Roosters.   David is one of the more amazing stories I've had the pleasure of watching unfold in all my time watching Junior Hockey. A 20 year old entering the season, he went from maybe thinking about playing CIS hockey, or coming to the end of his career. An amazing season later, and he was signed by the Ottawa Senators on April 1st 2010, straight out of Junior A. It was almost cruel to have it happen on April Fools, because it was literally almost unbelievable.

Some highlights from the 2009-2010 playoffs where he led the team in scoring.

And my personal favourite

Dogs drop 5-4 double OT thriller to Caps

The first few minutes were back and forth, and energetic. The Bulldogs would earn a power play after a good containment shift in the Capitals zone. They looked good on it, but also gave up a shorthanded breakaway where Brody Claeys poke-checked it away from Ty Pochipinski. The Bulldogs would push back in the back-half of the power play, and while they failed to score it wasn't for a lack of opportunities as they pushed the pace and moved the puck with purpose and got it on net frequently as Lane Michasiw made a series off solid stops in the Caps net. Immediately after the power play elapsed, the Capitals would take another penalty at the Bulldog net. The Dogs would connect on it by again just getting the puck on net, and getting a bounce as a result as Connor Welsh and Trevor Cosgrove switched up at the point resulting in a Welsh one-timer hitting either traffic in front, or Michasiw, before bouncing cross-ice where it was one-timed home by Jordan Sandhu to make it 1-0 at 9:38 of the first. The Dogs pushed to build the lead and had their chances but couldn't capitalize. The Caps would answer against the flow of play after a scramble at their net as the play turned up ice and Justin Perron carried over the Dogs line up the right wing and to the bottom of the circle where he threw it at the net and got a bounce as it caromed off a Bulldog and in for his first career goal to make it 1-1 at 16:44 of the first. No assists were given on the play. Shots in the period favoured the Bulldogs 16-6.

The Bulldogs again got off to a good start in the second, having two or three great chances in the slot and in tight in the Caps end stayed out, the most notable being a one-timer from the slot that saw Lane Michasiw flash out the left toe. The Caps would go immediately up ice on the rush against the flow of play and take a 2-1 lead when the Dogs turned it over behind their net, allowing Alec Zawatsky to walk out from behind the goal line and score a beautiful goal going top corner, short-side high catching Claeys leaving the post early. No assists were given at 3:32 of the second. The Dogs continued to push, and came back to tie the game at 2-2 after again a series of good chances finally saw Ryan Steele put the puck behind the goal line for Auggie Moore who made a spinning behind-the-back pass onto the tape of Henry Marshall at the top of the crease where he fought it home over the line at 8:02 of the period. Just seconds later it was a 3-2 Caps lead as a shot from the point was stopped by Claeys, but the rebound went right into the stick of Alec Zawatsky who fired it into the open side. Assists on the play went to Ty Pochipinski and Chris Harpur at 8:43 of the second. Just 10 seconds later it was 4-2, albeit controversially, as a wrist shot from the right wing wall eluded Claeys, and certainly went into the net. However, as Claeys pushed off the post, the net appeared to come off. The Referee at the net would immediately wave it off, but after an extended conversation between all four Officials the call would be changed to goal. Ty Pochipinski would get credited with it, with the lone assist going to Ryan Hogg at 8:53 of the period. The Dogs would change goalies, and to their credit didn't appear to be deflated by it as they just kept pushing. After again a handful of good chances were kept out by Michasiw, they made it a one-goal game when Alex MacDonald did a great job to get in on the forecheck and tie it up behind the Caps net. Ryan Steele would support him and feed it back to the top of the right circle for Paul Savage, who just simply fired it on net through traffic. The puck would hit something, and find the top corner over the glove of Michasiw. No assists were given on the play at 18:28 of the period. Shots were even at 16 aside, for a Bulldog advantage of 32-22 after 40 minutes.

The first few minutes were played rather cautiously, with the Dogs coming up with a solid penalty kill to stay within a goal. They would take another penalty, but then draw one immediately on the faceoff. During four-aside hockey they tied the game as Tristan Bukovec did a great job to hustle in on the forecheck, forcing a puck to the right point that was kept in by Trevor Cosgrove. Bukovec would then drive to the middle to support the puck and take a return pass from Cosrgove that he sent cross-ice to the left point for Connor Welsh, who found Jordan Sandhu all alone in front where he cut across the crease and deked out Michasiw to slide it into the open side to tie it at 4-4 at 7:47 of the third. The Dogs would come up with another solid penalty kill on a too-many-men penalty to keep it tied, with Carson Schaerhorn looking sharp. As the back half of the period wore on, the Dogs would have too many chances to even begin to recap, including on back to back power plays with less than five, and just over a minute to play, but they couldn't beat Michasiw as the game went to overtime. The Dogs out shot the Capitals 11-9 in the third, for a 60 minute total of 43-31.

The first overtime saw more of the same, with the Dogs having a bushel of chances, but again Michasiw was fantastic to keep his team in it, with the Dogs out shooting the Caps 9-0 in the first OT. The second OT would see the Dogs earn the opening possession, but they couldn't capitalize before the Caps took the puck back, and won the game as Max Newton dumped it down the left wing for Chris Harpur, who walked behind the Dogs net, out the near side, and across the slot un-touched where he put a perfect wrist shot top corner, far-side over the glove of Schamerhorn for the 5-4 final, with Ayden MacDonald also drawing an assist at 41 seconds of double OT.

Carson Schamerhorn took the loss in net in a solid relief effort, while Lane Michasiw was fantastic in earning the win. The Dogs went 2 for 7 on the power play while the Capitals went 0 for 3.

The Dogs are next in action tomorrow night when they face the Grizzlies in Victoria.

Dogs and Caps meet for first time tonight at the Multiplex, Casey Bailey interview

It's the first edition this season of the "Battle of the Valleys" as the Bulldogs (4-9-1-0, 5th Island) host the Cowichan Valley Capitals (8-4-2-1, 2nd Island) tonight at the Dog Pound.

The Bulldogs were last in action Sunday night in Chilliwack, where they lost their sixth in a row, 4-1 to the Chiefs. The Capitals were in Nanaimo Wednesday night, where they snapped a mini two game slide with a 3-1 win over the Clippers.

Bruce MacDonald and I will have the call for you on Van Isle Ford's Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM, with the broadcast commencing with the pregame show at 6:45, with the play-by-play to follow the 7:00pm puck drop.

Tonight's 2nd Intermission guest is former Bulldog Casey Bailey, who got off to a great start with the AHL's Binghamton Senators last week with two goals in their season opener.

It's great to be able to catch up with guys like Casey, not only to reminiss, but to reflect on their road to where they are now. Casey made the Dogs as a walk on in 2009. After a couple great years here, he spent a year in the USHL, three years with the NCAA's Penn State Nittany Lions, and then just last spring signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs and scored a goal on Hockey Night in Canada. Just awesome stuff. You never know where the kids you are watching every night in the BCHL might end up down the road in just a couple years.

This one is a little less flashy in regards to the production values, but it's just as cool - another first.

And one from right in our rink.

A fairly even first 10 minutes of the game, with the Bulldogs playing at a high pace entering their third game in three days. Brody Claeys would have to make a big save just 1:05 into the game when the Dogs casually coughed the puck up in their zone and Jordan Kawaguchi put it in front and onto the tape of Kohen Olischefski who was in alone. Brody Claeys would come up with a big save on his one-timer attempt to keep it scoreless. The Bulldogs would battle hard, and earn the first power play of the game just past the midway point of the first. It appeared to have been the worst thing that could've happened as they appeared to relax, and off the won faceoff immediately coughed the puck up at the attacking line. The Chiefs would clear the zone, and then out-race the Bulldogs back to their end and out fight them for the puck, resulting in a breakaway for Will Calverly that he connected on with a quick wrist shot, glove-side past Claeys. Cole Poliziani drew the only assist at 11:14 of the first. The Dogs didn't appear to learn their lesson, as just a dozen or so seconds later they turned the puck over again being too casual at the Chiefs line, resulting in another shorthanded breakaway for Anthony Vincent. Jake Witkowski would hustle back to get a stick on Vincent, and Claeys would made the save on a deke. A penalty shot would be awarded - the second in as many games for the Chiefs against the Dogs - with Vincent failing to connect as he appeared to miss high, far-side. The Chiefs would earn a power play late in the period, and had no less than three fantastic looks to build their lead, but Brody Claeys robbed Jordan Kawaguchi on back-to-back-to-back chances in the slot and at the side of the net to keep it a 1-0 deficit after 20 minutes. Shots in the period favoured Chilliwack 11-7.

The second period saw a very similar sequence play out, as the Dogs earned a power play, only cough up - you guessed it, a shorthanded breakaway as a D-man moved in tight and missed the net long side, resulting in the puck rimming the other way with everyone caught deep. Linden Hora would out-race everyone to the Dogs net, where he snapped it home five-hole on Claeys to make it 2-0 at 5:01 of the second, unassisted. As disheartening as allowing a second shortie against must have been, the Bulldogs pushed right back and connected on the power play as just 1:13 later it was a 2-1 game as Darren Rizzolo made a nice outlet pass up the right wing for Auggie Moore, who then found Ryan Steele up the middle through centre. He would walk right down mainstreet and right on net where he showed great patience to deke out Mark Sinclair and slide it into the open side at 6:14 of the second. The game was fairly even through the middle stages of the period, but the Chiefs had the edge in the latter stages as a four minute penalty was given to Trevor Cosgrove for spearing, for what didn't look like much. The Bulldogs would kill it all off, and weren't able to draw penalties on what looked like were a couple of instances to even it up. As they killed it, a penalty was given to the Chiefs, but it was immediately evened up and the Dogs didn't end up earning a power play. Shots in the period favoured the Chiefs 14-8, for a 40 minute advantage of 25-15.

The Bulldogs hung around through the midway point of the third, but couldn't only generate a couple of looks to try to tie the game. The Chiefs would then blow it open with two goals in 25 seconds to blow it open, the first coming from the Chiefs beating the Dogs to their net as Jordan Kawaguchi set up Tommy Lee driving the net with a nice pass at the net that he snuck home on the backhand to make it 3-1 at 9:08 of the third. Off the next faceoff it was a 4-1 game as the Chiefs chipped the puck off the glass and out of their zone and again beat the Bulldogs back to their net as Jake Smith chipped it out, got to it first, and chipped it up the middle for Aaron O'Neill who skated in alone and snapped one past Claeys to make it 4-1 at 9:33 of the third to complete the scoring. The Dogs would press with six minutes to play when they pulled their goalie on the power play to make it a 6 on 4 situation, but despite a couple great looking cross-crease and off the net set ups they couldn't connect like they did last night to make a game of it again.

Third period shots favoured the Chiefs 10-7 for a game total of 32-25 with Brody Claeys taking the loss while Mark Sinclair picked up the win. The Dogs went 1 for 4 on the power play, while the Chiefs went 0 for 6 while also scoring twice while shorthanded.

The Bulldogs are next in action Friday at home when they host Cowichan.

The Bulldogs looked like a different team from the opening puck drop, bringing everything that they lacked the nght before as they had a good jump to their step resulting in a couple good chances through the first couple of minutes. While they were better overall, and offensively, they weren't as good defensively as they needed to be as Brody Claeys came up with two big back-to-back breakaway saves on Nicholas Ponak and then Andrew Dumaresque to keep it scoreless. The period remained high-paced, and fairly evenly played through the midway point. Langley would earn the first power play chance of the game, but the Dogs came up with a solid kill with Claeys making one good save, and both Quinn Syrydiuk and Tristan Bukovec coming up with big shot blocks in the slot. The Bulldogs earned their first power play of the game in short order, and connected on it to open the scoring in the final seconds of the penalty as Ryan Steele walked to the top of the right circle before finding Alex MacDonald with a cross ice pass in the left circle. He would slide a pass down low for Henry Marshall, who simply just snapped a puck on net that appeared to catch Braedon Fleming either cheating, or by surprise as it snuck in through his legs to make it 1-0 at 16:02 of the first. Shots in the period were even at 9-9.

The second period saw the Rivermen tie the game after another solid Bulldog penalty kill as a loose puck was thrown to the back post where Brendan Budy snapped it home inside the post before Claeys could get over. Assists on the play went to Andrew Dumaresque and McKay Flanagan at 3:33 of the second. Langley would take their first lead of the game soon afterwards, on a fluky bounce thrown at the net by Spencer Barry that hit the ice and bounced in the air before being deflected in past the glove of Claeys by Max Kaufman. Ryan Barrow also drew an assist on the play at 6:04 of the second. The Rivermen went to the power play five minutes later, and connected on it to make it a 3-1 game as Cameron Ginetti had his first shot blocked, but the Dogs were unable to clear before he took a return pass and fired it home through the glove arm of Claeys. Assists on the play went to Max Kaufman and Reid Yochin at 11:14 of the second. The Dogs would be awarded a power play a minute later, and would again make good on it as Henry Marshall picked up a rimmed puck behind the net and made a quick pass to the slot for Quinn Syrydiuk. His initial one-timer was stopped, but Tristan Bukovec would fire the loose puck home to make it 3-2 at 13:23 of the second to make it 3-2 after 40 minutes. Shots in the second favoured Langley 14-6 for a two period advantage of 23-15.

The third period was again played at a high pace from the outset, with each team having their looks, but the Rivermen having the better of them. The score stayed 3-2 until just short of the midway point of the period when the Dogs had an attacking zone faceoff in the Langley end that they lost. A simple flip play saw the puck go over a Bulldog defender at the attacking line. The defender would hustle too late, allowing Nicholas Ponak to beat him to the puck and out-fight him in the slot to skate in alone where he snapped a beautiful shot top corner, over the glove of Claeys to make it 4-2 at 13:41 of the third. The Dogs earned a power play soon after, but coughed the puck up at the attacking line resulting in a shorthanded breakaway for Ponak, who out-fought the defense and cut across the crease before sliding a backhand home through the legs of Claeys to make it 5-2 at 13:41 of the third, shorthanded. The Bulldogs would earn another power play with just under four minutes to play, and they would call time out and gamble by pulling Brody Claeys. They would be rewarded for it as the gamble paid off when Jake Witkowski fired a shot on net from a sharp angle at the bottom of the left circle. A rebound would pop out to the slot where Quinn Syrydiuk, who blew a slap shot through the legs of Fleming to make it a 5-3 game, with Marshall and Bukovec drawing the assists at 16:43 of the third. The Bulldogs would keep their goalie out, and spent the better part of the final three minutes on the attack in the Langley net, but despite a large amount of chances they couldn't capitalize to make it a one-goal game before Ryan Barrow lifted one into the empty net with 37 seconds to play for the 6-3 final.

Third period shots favoured the Bulldogs 12-7, with the Rivermen leading the shot total 30-27. Brody Claeys took the loss while Braedon Fleming picked up the win. The Dogs went 3 for 4 on the power play, while the Rivermen went 1 for 3 while also scoring once while shorthanded.

The Dogs conclude their weekend tomorrow night in Chilliwack when they face the Chiefs for a 5:00pm start.
