TSUNAMI ALERT FOR COASTAL BRITISH COLUMBIA ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT

CANADA ON BEHALF OF THE BRITISH COLUMBIA PROVINCIAL EMERGENCY PROGRAM

AT 4:19 AM PST FRIDAY 11 MARCH 2011.

      HAIDA GWAII

      NORTH COAST - COASTAL SECTIONS BANKS ISLAND AND NORTH

      NORTH COAST - INLAND SECTIONS NORTH OF KITIMAT

      NORTH COAST - COASTAL SECTIONS SOUTH OF BANKS ISLAND

      NORTH COAST - INLAND SECTIONS KITIMAT AND SOUTH

      CENTRAL COAST - COASTAL SECTIONS

      CENTRAL COAST - INLAND SECTIONS

      NORTH VANCOUVER ISLAND - EAST FACING COASTS

      NORTH VANCOUVER ISLAND - NORTH AND WEST FACING COASTS

      INLAND VANCOUVER ISLAND

      WEST VANCOUVER ISLAND - SOMBRIO POINT AND NORTH.



      AT THIS TIME IT IS BELIEVED THAT A LOW LEVEL TSUNAMI HAS BEEN

      GENERATED THAT COULD IMPACT MARINAS AND OTHER COASTAL

      INFRASTRUCTURE OR CREATE STRONG CURRENTS IN HARBOURS AND

      ISOLATED COASTAL AREAS.  LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN THESE ZONES ARE

      ADVISED TO ACTIVATE THEIR EMERGENCY PLANS AND TO IMMEDIATELY

      EVACUATE MARINAS, BEACHES AND OTHER AREAS THAT ARE BELOW THE

      NORMAL HIGH TIDE MARK.  THE PROVINCIAL EMERGENCY COORDINATION

      CENTRE WILL ISSUE UPDATED INFORMATION, AS SOON AS IT IS

      AVAILABLE.



      NO OTHER AREAS OF COASTAL BRITISH COLUMBIA ARE AT RISK.

      REPEAT, NO OTHER AREAS OF COASTAL BRITISH COLUMBIA ARE AT RISK.



      CLOSELY MONITOR LOCAL RADIO STATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
AND BE PREPARED TO RECEIVE DIRECTION FROM LOCAL AUTHORITIES.
