Bulldogs host Grizzlies tonight for Home Opener

Hockey is finally back at the Dog Pound, as the Bulldogs (2-0-0-0, 1st Island) host the Victoria Grizzlies (0-1-0-0, 5th Island) at the Alberni Valley Multiplex for their 2018 Home Opener.

The Bulldogs were last in action Sunday afternoon in Nanaimo, when they won their second straight to open the season, 2-1 over the Clippers.  The Grizzlies have played just once so far in this young season, last Saturday night when they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Kings in Powell River.

This is the first meeting of the season between these teams, but each side of the puck has a fair amount of returnees that took part in last year's Island Division Semi Final series won by the Grizzlies in Game Seven. One one hand, it's ancient history. On the other, I'm sure it's crossed the minds of the returnees on both sides of the puck a time or two.

Get to the rink early tonight, as there will be a Tail Gate Party/BBQ by donation, and the Alberni Teens Can Rock will perform outside as well.

I can't wait to get back on the air from inside the friendly confines of the Dog Pound. It's been wayyyy too long. Van Isle Ford Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM goes live at 6:45 for our pregame show, with the puck drop and play-by-play to follow the pregame festivities at 7:00. Bruce MacDonald will take care of the colour commentary and analysis, Dan Tisserand covers team and individual statistics and I call the play-by-play.

Tonight's 2nd Intermission Feature Guest is Justis Doucet, who's not only the play-by-play voice of the Cowichan Valley Capitals, but brother to Bulldog Forward Jackson Doucet, which is certainly something we'll talk about in the interview along with last week's game, tomorrow's rematch at the Dog Pound, and the off-season change in Duncan.
