September 9, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Port Alberni, BC – The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have rounded out its leadership group for the upcoming 2016-17 season. The team announced that Jordan Sandhu will Captain the Bulldogs, while Tristan Bukovec, Malik Kaila, Paul Savage, and Quinn Syrydiuk were named Alternate Captains.

“We believe that this group of young men has all the qualities it takes to represent our hockey club as leaders,” says Head Coach and General Manager, Kevin Willison.

Sandhu enters his second season with the Bulldogs and will serve as the youngest Captain in team history. The Richmond, BC, product is coming off a successful rookie season where he scored 38 Points (5 Goals and 33 Assists) in 44 games. Sandhu is scheduled to attend Arizona State University on a NCAA Division 1 scholarship for the 2018-19 season.

Syrydiuk, who hails from Toronto, ONT, served as an Alternate Captain last season and was the recipient of the team’s Humanitarian and Academic Awards.

“Quinn is a good person and teammate and he has plenty of experience being on a winning team at the Junior A level out in Ontario,” says Willison. Syrydiuk was a part of the back-to-back Dudley Hewitt Cup Champion Toronto Patriots of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Bukovec (Penticton, BC) was the team’s Most Improved Player last season and led the Bulldogs in scoring this pre-season with 5 Goals in 3 games. Savage (Surrey, BC) was acquired in the off season from the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League to add veteran experience to the blue-line. Malik (Squamish, BC) was acquired earlier this week in a trade and served as the captain for the Merritt Centennials last season.
