Dogs stretch streak to three, top Caps 4-1, rematch tomorrow

Unable to post this on the Bulldogs website, as all websites through Esportsdesk appear to be unavailable at the moment, starting with the BCHL homepage and on down through the league's member clubs!

Below is the Recap how it would appear on the Dogs website! Good win for the Dogs, now do it again tomorrow on the road in a tough barn! Hard fought game by the Caps, should be a good one tomorrow.

The Bulldogs hosted the Capitals Friday night to kick off a Home and Home weekend series on 80’s Night at the Dog Pound. The Dogs got off to a great start, taking a 7-0 lead in the shots early in the game but Patrick Spano was good in the Capitals net. The Dogs would find the net just 17 seconds into their first power play chance of the game as Evan Tironese one-timed a feed from Matt Hansen from the top of the point top corner, glove side on Patrick Spano, off the back bar and right back out with the goal light not going on but Referee Jeff Eden signalling goal from behind the goal line. Matt Hansen and Chase Van Allen picked up the assists at 17:28 of the first for a 1-0 Dogs lead after one, and a 15-5 lead in shots.

The second period again saw the Bulldogs carry the bulk of the play, but they weren’t rewarded with goals. Back-to-back long shifts in the Capitals zone saw plenty of opportunities, but Spano was great in the Capitals net. At the other end, Brad Rebagliati was tested eight times and had to make a couple of good saves. The Dogs would really push hard and up their effort late in the period and they were rewarded for it when Tryg Strand found his own rebound after a diving save by Spano and brought it behind the net and wrapped it around before Spano could recover and get to the other side of the net. Assists on the play went to Mitch Crisanti and Mitch Makin at 18:53 of the second for a 2-0 Dogs lead after two period with a 29-13 lead in shots.

The third period finally saw some scoring before the final two minutes of the frame as Nick Kerr picked up a Ryan Buse rim up the right wing and sent Chase Paylor in alone with a great stretch pass up the middle where he walked in on the breakaway and went top corner, glove side on Spano. Assists on the play went to Dylan Haugen and Bo Pellah at 3:51 of the third. Half a minute later it was a 4-0 Dogs lead as on another odd-man rush saw Evan Tironese set up in tight with a gorgeous cross-ice pass by Ryan Lough that he snapped low past the blocker side of Spano for his second of the game. Hunter Stewart also picked up a helper on the play at 4:19 of the third, bringing about a Capital goaltending change as Connor LaCouvee entered the game.  The Dogs would push to pad the lead off the ensuing puck drop and got caught as the Caps raced up ice on an odd-man rush where Luke Gordon picked up a pass over the Dogs line down the left side in alone where he went top-corner, far side on Brad Rebagliati to make it a 4-1 game from Rylan Bechtel and Tyler Mueller at 4:55 of the third to complete the scoring.

Final shots favoured the Bulldogs 43-26 with Brad Rebagliati picking up the win while Patrick Spano took the loss. The Dogs went 1 for 2 on the power play while the Capitals went 0 for2. The home-and-home finishes tomorrow night at the Big Stick in Duncan.
