Eagles 5 Dogs 3

A well played game for the Dogs, close, but in the end no cigar as they had three separate leads in the game but they were unable to build on them. Penalties, and special teams, were their undoing in this one as the Eagles went 3 for 6 on the powerplay and the Dogs went 0 for 6.

They were ready to play in this one, going up 1-0 on a beauty by Justin Morello just 17 seconds in. The score stayed that way until Steve Koshey tied it late in the first on the powerplay.

It was 2-1 Dogs in the second on Ryan Lough's second of the year as he re-directed a perfect pass by Tyler Berkholtz at the side of the net. The Eagles again tied it, again on a Steve Koshey point shot on the powerplay. Just over a minute later it was 3-2 Dogs as Mike Puddifant scored on a point shot.

The Eagles tied it on their third powerplay goal of the game in the third as Tyler Morley jammed home a rebound on a goal mouth scramble. They would take a 4-3 lead on the rush immediately after killing a penalty on a Brandon Morley shot from the slot. A gusty move by the Coaching Staff appeared to pay off as they elected to pull Max Fenkell for the extra attacker on a face off in the Langley end with 1:55 to go in the third. The Dogs got possession and several chances before the Eagles were sent to the penalty box to make it a 6 on 4 with just over a minute to play. The powerplay wouldn't last long though, as immediately off the ensuing draw the Dogs were sent to the box to negate the powerplay. The Eagles iced it into an empty net with 18 seconds to play when Tyler Morley stole the puck at centre and scored into the empty cage for his second of the game.

Shots favoured Surrey 30-29.

A frustrating result for the Dogs as they were "right there" against a Conference leader for 40 minutes, only to lose in the third period. Somewhat reminiscent of the game in Powell River last Friday although the Dogs never had the lead in that one.

Time to turn the page to prepare for Langley tomorrow.
