Kings 4, Dogs 1, Year End Awards Banquet this morning
A flat game for the most part, with no scoring in the first period and only 13 combined shots. The start to the second was again rather slow, but once the Kings struck on a breakaway by Brendan Hawryluk seven minutes in to go up 1-0 the pace picked up a bit.
The biggest cheer for the home fans came just after the halfway mark of the game when Liam Darragh won a decision over Justin DaSilva. Darragh had challenged DaSilva after it looked like did something behind the play to Dylan Nowakowski.
The Kings built their lead to 2-0 on a 2 on 1 rush two minutes into the third converted by Scott Renner, and held that lead until just over four minutes remained in regulation when Kenney Morrison spoiled Michael Garteig's bid for the single season shut out record with a blast from the point to make it 2-1.
The Dogs would give up another breakaway pressing for the equalizer, resulting in a Kings power play that they made good on to get insurance back with a Matt Garbowski power play goal with 1:46 to play. An empty netter by Jason Yee - his first marker since November 2009 - sealed the deal for the 4-1 final.
