Clippers 3 Dogs 1

A tough one for the home side, and a great one for the injury depleted road side saw the Clippers pick up the first road win in the season series with a 3-1 win at the Pound.

It was 1-0 Dogs 4:59 in when Casey Bailey and Josh Mitchell set up Tyler Berkholtz on a backdoor play on a 5 on 3 created when the Shipmen picked up a bench minor while already shorthanded. After the second penalty Clippers Head Coach and GM Bill Bestwick was ejected. Inside 4 minutes might be a new record..it didn't appear that there was much in the way of comments or gesturing from the bench so my only theory was that the official wasn't happy with how the 2nd minor penalty was being served.

The Dogs had another 5 on 3 before the Clippers got a chance when the Bulldogs picked up two minors in less than a minute. The Dogs would kill it off and lead 1-0 after 1, and by the same score after 2 although the Clippers controlled the bulk of the play in the second and Frank Slubowski was very good when he had to be.

Nanaimo tied it at 1-1 early in the third when Kyle Kramer was found alone at the top of the crease. They took the lead four minutes later when Ryan Stanimir tipped a shot off Slubowski and in for a 2-1 lead. The Clippers would make the lead stand before finding the empty net with 25 seconds to go as Kyle Kramer picked up his second of the game.

Full credit to the Clippers for the win as they outworked the Dogs and played more of the 60 minutes than their opponents.

Next up for the Dogs is the Merritt Centennials at the Pound tomorrow after with the pregame show at 2:15 and the play-by-play at 2:30.

The Dogs have had consistency issues consistently. Here's hoping they will come out tomorrow and be angry about that one to bring a full effort.

Time to hit the hay.
