Grizz 3 Dogs 2

Wowzers, where to start with that game?

How about - Victoria played a great hockey game? They came out and made it 1-0 just over a minute into the game, 30 seconds after I thought they had already scored as David Morley hit the crossbar. Joel Lowry got the goal as he was left alone in front, his third goal in just four periods of hockey against the Dogs this season. The Grizzlies would hem the Dogs in their own zone several times throughout the game for long periods of containment, but they couldn't get anything past Frank Slubowski. When the Dogs had a chance, Matt Ginn was again very good in the Grizz net. The Dogs finally got on the board late in the second when Tyler Berkholtz tipped home a Kenney Morrison point shot to make it 1-1 and what was a dead silent Dog Pound just a moment earlier was all of a sudden alive. Less than a minute later sparks flew as Brody Lynott took what looked like a high hit from Josh Bryan that put him on the seat of his pants. Lynott attempted to get up, but he would have his legs give out underneath him. Play would continue into the Dogs end but play was whistled dead with Casey Bailey and Josh Bryan in a scrap behind the play at the Bulldogs Blue Line. Just 17 seconds of play would pass when action resumed. When play stopped the teams met at the net in another scrum and more penalties were handed out to Sam Mitchell and Brett Kolins. Just 9 more seconds of play went by again when action resumed before Sawyer Mick hit Scott Milthorpe on the half wall. Mick would then be challenged by Nick Buchanan who came to the aid of his teammate. Mick obliged and dropped his gloves. As they went, Gregory Simpson and Connor Varley also started fighting. When all the dust settled Mick was handed a 5 minute major for a head shot with an ejection, Simpson and Varley were given fighting majors and ejected, while Scott Milnthorp and Justin Morello picked up misconducts. With the Grizzlies on their five minute power play another 2 went to the Dogs as Tyler Berkholtz was given 2 for a check from behind and a game misconduct. Through the end of the second and into the third the Dogs killed off the full two minute 5 on 3 and the remainder of the major penalty. The Dogs took their first lead of the game just short of the halfway mark of the third when Sam Mitchell poked a loose puck home as Brody Lynott put the puck on net off a faceoff win in the Victoria end. The lead wouldn't last long as less than a minute later it was 2-2 when Brandon Fagerheim roofed one from the slot on a great set up by Jake Baker who took a huge hit from Brody Lynott at the line to make the play happen. Just over two minutes later it was 3-2 Victoria as Wesley Myron threw a puck to the front of the net from the left corner that hit a Bulldog defender and went comically, if not painfully, up in the air and down into the back of the net. The Dogs would have several great chances to tie the game up but they couldn't bury one as the Grizzlies made the lead stand.

One thinks that there will be more to come from this game. For now, this guy is heading to bed, I have a Morning Show tomorrow!
