Mitch MacMillan decommits to Northeastern, off now to St. Cloud State, Paul Esdale on THE PEAK this Morning, Tlu-Piich Games kick off today

On the same day we got word that Mark MacMillan was heading in a different direction, I also got word that Mitch was also heading in a different direction - he won't be heading to Northeastern University this fall.

This word was a little different, as it came straight from the "horses mouth" so to speak, as I received a message directly from Mitch giving me the heads up on the news.

My thanks to Mitch, as it's pretty rare for someone in my position to get the word on something like this directly from the player in question. Usually it's from a league, a team, another media outlet, a message board, etc.

Here's the jist of the message from Mitch, which also addresses how the situation came about with Mark.

Hey Hammer,

I know there is a lot going on with Mark - its tough for him the leave the team and the community but he was advised to do it for a better chance of one day playing in the NHL. But thats hockey right.

The reason I am messaging you is that a have a little bit of news of my own. I have decommitted from Northeastern because of some scholarship and late paperwork issues and I have now committed to St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

If you could please let the bulldogs fans know on your blog that would be great.

Thanks,
Mitch

Best of luck Mitch, thanks for the update and for all you did as a Dog, and best of luck at St. Cloud

That was very nice of Mitch for updating us fans. Because we wouldn't of known unless we heard things from others or on message boards. But he came and emailed and told you which was a good thing to do. Mitch is going to do awesome in St. Cloud State. They are getting an awesome player and a good guy. Best of luck to you Mitch!

So, Mark is going to Penticton because he feels he will develop better than when in Alberni, in order to advance to the NHL?

He might be totally right there.

He might be right, and he might be totally wrong too.

You never know what the future holds.

With the team Penticton had last year, would Mark have been able to earn the playing time he had with the Bulldogs? The playing time that made him an NHL Draft Pick, and a UND Recruit?

The point I'm making - playing in Alberni was a great thing for Mark. Maybe he would have done it all in Merritt too. Who knows.

From everything I have learned from how this situation came about and with how the decision was made, it was about playing at home vs. playing away from home, not playing for the Bulldogs vs. playing with the Vees - or anyone else.
