Vees 4 Dogs 3

What a wild finish.

The Vees jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the game was five minutes in on goals by Luke Curadi and Beau Bennett, on the powerplay.

The game changed when Brody Lynott ran over Denver Manderson as he chipped the puck out at the Blueline.

Credit the Vees for defending their star player as the reaction took mere seconds as Lynott would barely get up before he was faced with 2 Vees players with their gloves off, the second in appearing to be Luke Curadi who threw him down to the ice and threw two punches with Lynott on his knees. Casey Bailey would react to his teammates defense and be accosted by two more Vees players. Then Sam Mitchell and Warren Muir joined to make it into a 4 on 4.

When the dust settled Curadi would get 5 for fighting and 2 for instigator, and Lynott would get 2 for roughing. Casey Bailey would get the 3rd man in and a game ejection.

When play resumed the Vees would be sent to the box after 20 seconds of four on four hockey. Two more Penticton minors over the next 2 minutes would see the Dogs go to an extended 5 on 3. It would be the Vees who ended up with the best chance, as Eric Filou was robbed by the left toe of Lewan on the deke. Lewan would then somehow snare the follow up chance to keep the Dogs in it. They would reward him by finding the net when Luke Fenske one-timed a Ryan Corbiell pass that was re-directed home by Sam Mitchell.

The Vees stormed out in the second making it 3-1 when Logan Johnston banged in a rebound in the slot. Ben Sexton would increase the lead to 4-1 with eight minutes left in the second when he deflected a Matt Paltridge point shot off of a faceoff win.

Credit to the Dogs for not quitting, as they got back within two just over a minute later when Jesse Halikas potted a rebound off a Nick Cecere point shot for his first career goal to make it 4-2.

Playing their fourth game of their roadtrip the Vees did a great job of holding their two goal lead as they still led 4-2 with five minutes to go.

The Dogs kept at it though, as they really made it a game of it as Warren Muir banged another rebound home after a Robert Lindores wrap around to make it 4-3 with just over three minutes left.

With the Pound energized the Dogs generated a flurry of chances off a late powerplay chance that ended with a frantic scramble around the Vees net ending with the buzzer sounding.

Sean Bonar came up huge as he made 4 or 5 big stops over the last minute of the game to earn the win.

You know the enterainment value is high and the effort of the two teams is appreciated when the home team comes up short at the end to lose - yet the Dog Pound crowd responds with a standing ovation.

I didn't hear the official final tally raised with PINK THE RINK at the end of the game but Nolan Graham said he believed it was over or around $6,000

Yes, I won the chuck a puck. I was just defending The Peaks prize, which I promptly donated to the Bulldogs PINK THE RINK total!
