POWER ON!, Clippers preview, Dogs in action tomorrow.....

Quite the evening last night in Port Alberni as the entire city was without power from about 4:00pm until somewhere around 8pm. It was like being back in the 1800's or something...like I would have any idea what the 1800's are about I barely even knew what the 1980's were about. Of course the trusty blackberry still worked so I was still "plugged in"

So, what was the problem anyway? David Wiwchar has it covered over at www.alberniportal.ca

For the faithful blog readers from the Hub City, The Nanaimo News Bulletin has published a nice preview on the Nanaimo Clippers season. Check it out the story by Greg Sakaki by

Hectic times for me right now getting ready for the Bulldogs season opener tomorrow night in Powell River and our first of SIXTY broadcasts on 93.3 THE PEAK FM.

Memorizing names, numbers, hometowns, hands, etc etc etc is all just part of the job. Most of the time I don't have to worry about the Bulldogs roster, I just have to study the other side of the puck. But this early in the season I'm still trying to study the Dogs and learn them too. So it's double the job, but I'm happy to do it.

The league's broadcasters had a conference call last night to chat about the upcoming season to ensure our broadcasts are deliverable to the fans without problems. I'm crossing my fingers everything goes good from Powell River tomorrow. I'm not exactly looking forward to broadcasting in the absolute middle of the crowd, but it's one of the few buildings where the set up is in the crowd with any lack of seperation between broadcaster and fan. At least in Cowichan there are placards up saying to STAY OUT. In Powell River, I have to make my own barriers to keep the kids from running me over and taking out my table and a couple thousand dollars worth of broadcasting and technological equipment. It's all just a part of the gig sometimes. Hey, I don't care if I have to call the game on one leg and ON FIRE, so long as I bring the game to the fans and families and everyone else. That's the ONLY PRIORITY.

Alright, enough blogging, I've got a broadcast to prepare!
