No breakthrough in talks between CBC and composer over HNIC song

TORONTO - Talks are continuing today between CBC and the agency representing the composer of the `Hockey Night in Canada' theme song.

CBC sports director Scott Moore has said he hopes the public broadcaster can reach a reasonable deal with representatives for Dolores Claman.

The licence agreement between Claman and CBC expired at the end of the NHL season Wednesday when the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins to take home the Stanley Cup.

The company Copyright Music and Visuals, which controls use of the jingle, says CBC gave notice Wednesday it would not enter into a new contract.

Copyright Music and Visuals president John Ciccone says he offered CBC a contract almost identical to the previous one, which had CBC paying about $500 for every game it used the song.

Moore says a lawsuit filed by the company against CBC for misusing the song has been a stumbling block in negotiations.

(to me the song isn't "dunt" but "bum bah bum bum bum" but that doesn't matter of course!
